No, I don't. The fact that you think I would just reaffirms my knowledge that you have no idea how bad it was for me. You have no idea what you did. You have no idea how angry I am at you. I didn't know I was capable of being this furious. You cannot comprehend it. My life is better now that you are out of it, now that you live two thousand miles away.
I can't tell you any of this because it wouldn't help you to know, it would only make you more depressed. And despite everything you did to me, I still want you to get better. I don't want to hurt you. So I'll write the hurtful things down here instead of telling you, to get it out of my own head.
You are lazy, careless, inconsiderate, disrespectful, and immature. Your meltdowns are disturbing to witness. Your lies are pathetic, your gaslighting is pathetic, your life is pathetic. You throw a temper tantrums when I try to help you organize your life, when I try to help you to confront and fix your problems, when I try to help you accomplish your own tasks. You cannot handle even the most basic adult responsibilities. You want me to be flirty and romantic, like it was in the beginning. You want me to pretend like your addictions don't exist, like you do. You want me to pretend everything is fine, as if you aren't destroying your life right in front of me.
I can't do fun and flirty any longer. The brutal truth is I am not attracted to you anymore. I know it would be impossible for you to believe. You've never met a guy who wasn't attracted to you. I'm sure that contributes to some of your problems. You have such massive contradictions between your mindset, confidence, and depression.
Your chaotic behavior and terrible attitude confused me so much. It haunted me even when I wasn't around you. I couldn't stop thinking about you, in a bad way. However, I was so confident that I could help you, that I could show you the correct way to live, a better lifestyle than what you had. How stupid and naïve of me. Every time you failed it was like a punch in my gut, in my confidence. Why does she not listen to me? How can she not see the wisdom of my advice? Can she not see the benefits of my lifestyle? Am I not setting a perfect example for her? Why does she keep making the worst choices? Why can't she follow simple instructions?
I didn't understand.
I think and think and think, trying to comprehend. I think about it so hard I can't sleep. I cannot describe it. This analogy occurred to me. You are like a child. You have the stupidity of a 5 year old with none of the innocence. And you forced me to be your parent. You want me to still date you, to be romantic and soft. But if a child is standing on the edge of a balcony the parent can't tell them "good job!" If a child is about to touch a hot stove the parent can't say "you do you!" If child is running with scissors, the parent doesn't say "You're a winner!"
I figure that having a child is one of those human experiences that can only be truly understood by actually having one. But I find myself in the strange situation where I think I do understand it without having an kid. I think I have the hurt of a parent who feels like they failed as a parent. The parent of a child who's life went off the deep end, where they ended up dead or in prison. I feel like I could have done better. If only I had spotted your addiction sooner. If only I had been paying more attention and seen the truth through your lies. If only I had been harsher or controlling. If only I had realized the severity of your mental health early.
I honestly feel like I understand the pain and anguish of one of those parents who accidentally left their infant in a hot car. I swear to god it hurts like that.
I've since read the drowning analogy as well. And it is so accurate. You were drowning and I tried to rescue you. But instead of allowing me to help, you only tried to drown me as well. I had to give up, push you away, save myself, and watch you drown.
Do you remember the last day I saw you? The day I came to take you to a meeting? It was at noon but you couldn't even get up, you wouldn't get up. You promised me you'd go. I told you I'd go with you. You said you wanted to see me. But when the time came you were a different person. You couldn't get out of bed or get ready at all. Less than 24 hours after telling me you'd do anything to see me again, you were yelling and screaming and telling me to fuck off. Hours after telling me you loved me and that the meetings were important to you, you were telling me that you didn't care about the meetings and didn't care about me.
I was just sitting in the car, devastated. I had tried everything. That was my last attempt. And I know it was really you failing but I swear to god, it felt like it was me who failed. I have never felt so defeated in my entire life.
I came up to say goodbye the last time. I know you thought I was sad because you were moving soon and I wouldn't see you again. That's your narcissism showing. No, that wasn't it. I was destroyed that my efforts were so ineffective. It's devastating to try at at something with everything you have and to fall short. I was sad because I knew what was going to happen to you. I can see the future. I know what you're life will be like. Whether it's short or long, I know it will be miserable. And I couldn't stop it. You wouldn't let me stop it.
After some time of observing you and wading through your lies, I realized you were an addict. I knew you would end up broke. I knew you would lose your job. I knew you would get in a car accident. I predicted every single thing that happened. And I know what will happen to you next. And I know I can't do anything to stop it. And it tears me apart. It fucks me up.
You ask why I'm "punishing" you by ignoring you now. Once again revealing an incorrect mindset. Are you punishing every stray cat you don't adopt? Are you punishing the guy on the corner when you give him $100 and not $1000? Are your parents punishing you when they provide you food and shelter and love but don't buy you a car and a house? Get that shit out of your head. Nobody is punishing you. Nobody has wronged you. In fact, the opposite is true.
When you stole money from me multiple times and lied to my face about it, I briefly thought I might be dealing with a legitimate psychopath. You are not though. A psychopath wouldn't have been so stupid about it. However you do have the same issue with remorse. You say you're sorry all the time. But you're not really. You never mean it. Real apologies are accompanied by change. You refuse to change. You don't even try. You'll never pay back the money you stole. It's betrayal at the deepest level. And it makes me hate you.
You refuse to go to meetings for your addiction. You refuse to go to therapy. You repeat the same shit over and over again.
You've told me you think I must be in love with you, because I tried so hard to help you and didn't cut you off like you knew you deserved. I've been too nice to tell you how laughable that is. I never was your boyfriend, I've never been your boyfriend. We never dated. It was a casual thing. You made it more in your own head. It was only drawn out because you stole thousands of dollars from me. I was involuntarily invested in your recovery for the sake of collecting on your debt.
You once were sobbing in my arms, lamenting your fuckups and insisting you were not a bad person. It's sad to see the stories you tell yourself. You live in a fantasy world. And you can't escape. Because you don't want to.

Ok, I just wanna start by saying, I love the Light Phone, for real. I got my first one almost 3 years ago (rough estimate), and after 2 years, I replaced it with a new Light Phone just to avoid the slowing down that inevitably happens to all phones. I've convinced 3 others to give it a shot (2 stuck, 1 didn't). Seriously, I love it.

That being said the second one worked great when I first got it. The lighting was a little off and I made a post about it but realized I couldn't capture the lighting well on camera. So, I just decided to live with it. But now, after about 5 months, the screen randomly went haywire. It wasn't crushed, the screen protector isn't broken, it didn't get wet, left out in the sun or on the charger. The touch screen still works, I can still unlock it and after 5 minutes was able to play some music. But I can't read anything on the screen.
So honestly, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how this happened or what to do now. :0
I tried restarting it a few times, and I tried letting the battery die to then start it completely fresh (no idea if this would help, but it was literally all I could think of after restarting it).
Does Light Phone offer any sort of repair option or anything? In the meantime I can switch to my old Light Phone, but would definitely not want to stick to it long term as it is super slow after the 2 years of use.

side notes I would definitely recommend adding a way to view or export your calendar from the dashboard, as now I have lost everything that was on my calendar without a way to recover it until the phone is fixed. Just a recommendation that never would have occurred to me until now lol.

I have just finished reading this chapter and, as a 'noob' in philosophy(this is the first philosophy book I ever read haha) I have some difficulty understanding what Nietzsche is trying to say particularly when he talks about 'tyranny'. Basically I have two questions I am trying to understand what he means by tyranny and I am trying to understand his arguments for it and against democracy. I apologize to the more seasoned readers of philosophical works to which my questions may seem too obvious.

As I understood the chapter he advocates the idea of a 'united Europe' and then continues to claim that an individual would have better chances of becoming great in a 'tyranny' rather than in a democratic regime. His arguments seem to be that because a 'tyranny' is defined by discipline and constraints one would 'suffer' under such regime and through this 'suffering' he/she would have better chances to become great rather than in a democracy where(quoting him now):
" In a democracy there is a large variety of tastes(due to the supposed freedom, the lack of any real rule), but this democratic taste prevents true freedom and commitment as they can't love anything in particular and have a weak will in that they don't even have the ability to pursue anything fully and passionately(as they are always distracted)."

First of all what do you think he meant by 'tyranny'? I assume he certainly did not mean some regime like in North Korea or ex communist Romania had because how can one become great if they have restricted access to information compared to other people from around the world? When he was talking about 'tyranny' was he referring to some hypothetical regime or some form of gouverment that ceased to exist before his time? To me this is counter intuitive because when I hear the word tyranny to describe politics I instantly think of some kind of regime whose goal is to keep people as less informed as possible and less elevated as possible(stupid for lack of a better word) so they are easier to control. Though I am no expert in politics either so I may be wrong when assuming this.
His arguments against the democracy and pro 'tyrany', if I understand him correctly are that there is too much liberty, too many tastes(opinions) which would somehow distract one individual from pursuing only one goal. So he would oscillate between goals and he may get good at lots of things but never great at anything. Am I understanding his argument right?

Hello folks, so I've been into DnD recently, and I aren't very good at it, mostly with the builds.
So I've been playing as a Soulknife Hexblade, and I think I might have to change it, as the Hexblade features and Soulknife features keep messing each others up, though I'd like to keep it as more caster than a physical build.
So the initial idea was to go 3 rogue and 17 warlock build and I'd like to keep it that way, but is there anything that I can do by changing the Subclass to make a good synergy with it?
Ah- I might also rearrange my stats, as I use standard array and is using Dex as my main stat.
With a race that gives +2 +1 +1 stats increase with custom origins.
Any ideas are welcome, thank you for reading this.

For context: I went out to meet a friend last week for coffee and we had both babies with us. My LO is 14 months old and friends baby is 11 months old. We were catching up on life as we’d not seen one another since being pregnant - as I’m sure we all know, going through the motions of pregnancy, childbirth and the recovery process afterwards means that sometimes other things take a back seat, and for me it was meeting up with and keeping in touch with friends.
She was telling me that her LO is currently going through another sleep regression and that she’s not had a single full nights sleep since baby was born. He’s also struggling with weaning onto solid foods and will only eat the same 3 things - she’s exhausted trying to come up with new meal ideas, money is kinda tight and she feels defeated because she’s trying to cook and make all these meals for him, for him to then just either not even try it or to throw it everywhere. All the while she was telling me about her issues with her LO, he was screaming bloody murder and hitting her to try and get her attention. She added that it’s a regular occurrence, and that if all eyes and words aren’t directed at baby, he will kick off so badly up to the point where she has to just get up and leave wherevewhatever she was doing.
She’s tired, frustrated and just plain burnt out at this point and I don’t envy her at all. I’ve been there and it’s not pleasant, when LO was a newborn I hardly slept and was just going through the motions, basically was a walking zombie for the first 6 months. Things started to properly settle down for us when baby turned 9 months old, and it’s been a breeze since. The trouble is, I felt so bad and almost guilty in a sense, because compared to hers, LO is an absolute dream. - He’s a fantastic sleeper, always has been really. Started to get solid nights of sleep around 6 months when he moved into his own room and he sleeps right through from 7pm until anywhere between 7-8am the next morning with no interruption (only exception being when he’s teething). - He’s always been a good eater and the health visitor would comment how much of a good appetite he had as a newborn with his formula, and the same is said now that he’s on solids. He never fails to try whatever you put in front of him and enjoys most things he’s given (the only thing he point blank refuses to eat is rice, but I think that may just be the texture?). - I can take him out anywhere and he’s so so chilled. I’ve been to restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, animal attractions, arcades, the library and to the park with LO and he’s so so interested in everything and everyone he sees. He never screams, never cries, never makes a fuss. And if we are somewhere where there’s another child (being a child) and having a bit of a wobble, he just looks confused as heck.
I didn’t feel like I could tell my friend any of this whilst we were catching up, all because I felt guilty and that I was somehow trying to rub her face in it and boast about how much ‘better’ my baby is than hers. Which is absolutely not the case at all, and I wish that I could feel like I’m able to talk about my baby too without feeling like a complete AH. I just don’t want to upset her either or make her feel like she’s doing something wrong when she’s really doing amazingly, she’s just got it rougher than I have right now, and I have to remind her that it will pass eventually.
I guess I just wanted to ask if anyone else has felt a similar sort of way in this situation? Sometimes I’ll see posts on Reddit too and the same again, I feel I can’t participate in conversation without hurting someone’s feelings. 🙃

I was able to enjoy a few days of relative quiet. That’s how I’d sum it up, really. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing, there’d been a downpour the day after Michael came back, so the creek was in flood. Not so much that it was overflowing its banks, but enough that the water was quite audible from where we sat.
The sound of flowing water is something both dlamisa and humans enjoy quite a bit. We have an innate love of the stuff, the noise of it flowing has a naturally calming effect on our minds.
The grass was a little bit damp, somewhat slippery really, as I learned when I tried to catch that blasted ball, and ended up face planting and sliding into the water.
The splash was followed by a few “Oooohs’ from my humans, and my dlamisa counterparts, and when I got up, drenched from head to toe, but ball in hand, Fauve was rubbing the back of her head and looking more than a little bit sheepish.
“Sorry!” She shouted to me as I shook the water free.
“It’s fine.” I answered.
The Walkers of course, found it uniformly hilarious. And so did I, if I’m being honest. The thing I’ve noticed about laughter among humans is one of those things that can be benign, or profoundly cruel. I spent hours discussing this with Bau when she observed the same thing among demihumans, and in studying human comedies.
But it comes down to this. If you’re hurt, it’s not funny, if you look silly and aren’t in a vulnerable place, it’s funny. But if you are, it is not.
Only those secure in mutual affection can laugh at one another’s foibles.
Funnily enough, there was a dog there, one of their ‘boxer’ breeds, a form of dog renowned for its playful and childlike personality, and he did not know what to make of me. He cocked his head, the same as a curious dlamisa, and just ‘stared’ at me as if to say, ‘What kind of dog are you, and how are you walking that way?’
I found it best to ignore dogs, they seemed to think I was one of them, and were often uncomfortable when I didn’t act the same way they did.
Except for the wonders of the ball. I’ll wrestle one of them for that.
Do not ask me why. I have no idea. Or rather, I ‘had’ no idea.
Regardless, I am growing distracted. Outliers it seems, have that generally in common.
I returned with the ball triumphantly in hand and dripping wet to sit at the table. Michael was seated opposite myself and chattering with his mother.
“...So I really want to do it, it’s completely ‘versible, mom, you know that.” He said excitedly.
“Maybe so. But human trials are limited still and I can’t just give you a spot.” Rebecca answered.
“A spot for what?” I asked.
Genghis answered for them, “The reason he didn’t beat his last opponent.”
“What?” I asked and held out my plate for William to pile food onto.
“Genetic enhancement.” Byron clarified. “Like these two got, sort of.” He pointed to Boatswain and Genghis.
“Wait, really?” I was shocked, my jaw dropped. “Is that… I mean, I know humans have pretty good genetic science, you did get rid of genetic predispositions to various mental conditions but… what kind, exactly?”
“Like what they said, the sort of thing those two have.” William answered.
Michael crossed his arms in front of his chest. “Yeah. I’d have won, but he was so much stronger and faster… it doesn’t matter if I’ve got more skill if I can’t pull off what enhancements can.”
“You’re genetically modifying children now?” I asked, and Rebecca rolled her eyes.
“Not exactly. It’s an outgrowth of the Methuselah Initiative. This is where things get kind of…strange.” She pursed her lips and took a bite of mashed potato off her paper plate.
“It’s not that strange.” Fauve interjected while her mother thought. “Is it? I mean genetics are just biological machines, if you think about it. It’s no different than Byron’s augmentations.”
Byron ‘flexed’ with a boyish grin on his face while his muscles expanded dramatically. Genghis, Iskandar, and Boatswain, seemingly inspired by a competitive streak, struck poses for themselves, while notably eyeing the meat that was almost ready. Genetically modified dlamisa muscles bulged beneath their fur in close competition with the two human soldiers, and Michael pointed at them all.
“See! I can’t compete with that!” He insisted.
“That’s as good as telling your mother you want to go into those…blood sports. Way to argue against your own case, my boy.” Rebecca said and made a tut tut gesture with her pointer finger squarely at her son.
“Besides, that’s not what I mean. These modifications come from dlamisan technology given to us by Bau. It’s not even in official use yet, it’s only in human trials because we have a large sample size of…subjects, from the demihumans.” Rebecca replied and pursed her lips for a moment. “Besides, when you think about it, it’s strange that it works at all. What are the odds that deoxyribonucleic acid would be the building blocks of life on even two different worlds. Let alone like what Bau says, where it’s foundational everywhere.”
“Maybe that’s the only way life can form?” Fauve said with a mouthful of corn.
“You may be an adult, but you should still chew and swallow first.” William chimed in and began passing out the meat around the table, bringing its fragrant scent to our delighted noses.
“Even so. You wouldn’t think it would be like this. I’m at a loss to explain it, and so is everybody else.” Rebecca answered, “More importantly,” she looked down her nose at the young boy, “human trials on children are very limited and only to the ones who live on military bases where they can be observed. I’m not expecting anything to go wrong with it, but that’s not the real problem.”
“What is?” Genghis asked, his ears drooped as he settled back down at the long picnic table.
“Consequences for developing brains. No, I don’t mean that kind of consequence.” Rebecca cut off questions before it could be asked, “I mean the social sort. What if the people who are modified grow up thinking they’re better than everyone else? What if some of them become bullies? What if the people without modifications start to discriminate against the modified ones? Don’t tell me that wouldn’t happen when the xenophobes were after me in part because of the Methuselah Initiative and the idea that we were ‘polluting our pure human genes’ or whatever that nonsense was. That whole idea is a myth anyway. Everything is related to everything else and we’re always mutating and…” She paused when William cleared his throat.
She had a point. I hate to admit it, but we’d encountered multiple examples of the dark side of humans.
“Mom, you know I’d never be like…that.” Michael was a little sullen, “It’s just, that’s the only reason I lost.”
“It’s true, Michael has a lot of talent.” The martial four nodded in mutual agreement.
“They really shouldn’t let anyone compete with modifications like that.” William pointed out between bites of his burger. “It’s like performance enhancing drugs.”
“They won’t for the next one, the rules just weren’t updated.” Genghis pointed out, his tail wagging, “I can hardly wait to see what humans will be able to do when genetic modification is added to your cybernetics.”
“I’m requesting to be part of the cybernetic trials.” Boatswain said and cracked his knuckles cockily, “Dlamias is moving faster than Earth on these things.”
“Naturally.” I pointed out, “Just remember why.”
That was a sobering thought. Dlamias was still run the way it had always been, the individual life meant nothing in the face of progress. Trading a handful of soldiers for the knowledge to make many more, that much stronger? Who cared?
I couldn’t even hate them, I couldn’t resent them… all I could do was pity the homeworld, and do what I could to urge forward changes.
But changes were coming to Earth too. Bau was just the first and least official. Xenophobia on Earth was being eroded with every blow of a fist in my tournaments where human and nonhuman fought in pairs, and every ball caught which showed we could compete without killing.
As more technology and scientific exchanges continued, I had no doubt that these human trials would expand and become the norm. Dlamias would influence Earth, and Earth’s tendency toward overdoing everything would lead to them modifying their entire species at the reproductive level.
Which for those who are unfamiliar, would mean that the modifications would become heritable. In time, all humans would be born with strength and agility of the sort only cybernetics gave them now.
I wasn’t worried about that, not as long as the thing that made them truly human was left untouched.
They’re a lot more than the sum of their genes, and for that, I was heartily grateful, because it made that day, like so many others…a good one.

Title indicates "octaver" but description say "pitch shifter"... There is a reverb for sure.

I can't find any octavepitch shifter which sound the same. Seems like he's using an octaver with one octave (two ?) up, but im' not sure.

While I feel as though the balance with forward reinforcement trucks has largely been addressed I am curious as to what people think in regards to this concept. Maybe it’s been suggested before over the course of CoH2’s reign but it’s a thought I had and would like to share for some insight from the community. Also I’m aware with the change that occurred in terms of reinforcement times, this concept may overnerf the med trucks. This was an alternative to that change.
So the idea is the truck containing a pool of troops to reinforce from rather than having an indefinite amount that just funnels out of the truck. Not sure what the correct count would be but let’s say 20-40 troops. As it’s out near the front line it’s reinforcing from that pool and once it runs out you would need to return the truck to base to reinforce the med truck. It can stay providing aid via healing troops but not reinforcements unless it is filled up again. Now to avoid any imbalance to how the game works you would not pay for the filling of the med truck but rather only when it reinforces a squad. I think everyone would agree it would suck to have a truck destroyed after paying 100-300 man power to fill it up. Maybe this goes against the change bringing forth more of a realistic use of the trucks but having you pay upfront would not be ideal for gameplay and could snowball games with such losses.
In part I like the idea because as it stands now in CoH you often see no utilization of transports for troops and logically it makes sense to need to reinforce the truck too. As someone new to the franchise it’s just been odd to see little to no usage/incentive to transport troops faster to the frontline. Only time I do currently is in the beginning as USF with the Weasel before I upgrade it. That’s 1 trip with 1 squad. Now they added the ability to board tanks but I rarely see use of it and quite frankly I would like them to drop the troops off immediately upon encountering an enemy vehicle or AT. I don’t think people would stay on a tank that is being shot at lol With that said introducing this mechanic would possibly result in people actually using the truck as a means to transport troops to the frontline. Maybe it introduces too much additional micro but it sounds like a logical mechanic and breaks up the potential for blobbing with the med truck.

If you are in charge of reviving þe series, how will you do it?

I’ve been seeing some false ideas floating around about DID and our current understanding of it, and I thought I’d make a few corrections.
1.) There is no solid criteria for diagnosing DID. Any list of criteria you see beyond “more than one enduring distinct personality” is not broadly recognized by the wider psychological community. Some psychologists have more specific diagnostic criteria, but those are purely speculative. I understand that psychology is a soft science, but academic claims still need a basis in peer reviewed research.
2.) Most case studies of DID carry a lot of confirmation bias. If you’re familiar with the plausibo effect, it’s not dissimilar to the way that works. Basically, the doctor who’s seeing the patient will prod them for symptoms of DID, and the patient will reinforce these symptoms because they trust their doctor better than themselves. This is also why a lot of supposed ‘possession’ cases get worse after an exorcist confirms the idea. This isn’t to say that the person isn’t experiencing some symptoms of DID, just that there are external factors.
3.) Our understanding of DID is VERY primitive. Our knowledge of psychology is something that grows over time. Things like depression and autism have been studied for a lot longer than things like DID, so it’s not really fair to conflate Kaladin and Elhokar with Shallan.
4.) Being ‘cringey’ doesn’t dismiss someone’s capacity for mental illness. I know this sounds kind of silly, but I’ve seen some people dismiss Shallan mental health on the basis of finding her annoying, and I need you to understand. Mental illness isn’t cool, it doesn’t make you act cool in fact most of the time my mental health makes me very cringe. I know there’s a lot of cringey kids on TikTok who’s fake mental illnesses and that’s objectively wrong. But that’s not how mentally stable people act, and it’s stupid to dismiss their health because they’re reacting in an irrational way.
Just to be clear, I don’t PERSONALLY have DID, but I do have a depersonalization disorder, which is often a precursor to developing DID. I don’t even think Shallan has DID, but I do think she shares a lot of tendencies with it, and I think she could develop it under worse conditions. Mostly I just want people to be more aware of our general lack of understanding on the way DID works. I’ve seen people on this sub try to give definitive answers on how DID works, and most of the time they’re relying on outdated assumptions that are more in line with horror-movie logic than our current understanding of it.

So…. My questions in no particular order

• is there a linguistic thing going on here?
  
• is there a brand of linguistics that covers sounds made in such specific situations? This is different to me that the ubiquitous and consistent use of mm hmm, uh uh, etc.
  
• can anyone think of other super obscure sounds that are used in super specific situations?
  
• is this sound just for searching computers? Or could it have been used in the ‘old days’ to signify “I’m looking through a paper based directory” for some info

So, I'm not going to use stereotypically ghoulish vampire models (at least not many, maybe a few for the fodder). My vampires are a noble clan who have their eyes set on conquering, not just destroying.
Perhaps the most bizarre thing about my vampires is that they do not embrace the idea of vampires being unholy or impure. They wholly reject the idea of vampires being soulless abominations, and so will have less of an 'evil parody of Christ' vibe than, say, Dracula.
Alucard from the newish netflix Castlevania series is a great example of the vibe I'm gonna go for--most of the Castlevania vampires have a pretty similar vibe, which I love and will be using for inspiration.
My question is this: What techniques and color palettes do you think would work well with this particular aesthetic? Most of my painting so far has been with brighter, more ostentatious colors--how different is painting with the darker, slightly more muted tones here?

For context: I went out to meet a friend last week for coffee and we had both babies with us. My LO is 14 months old and friends baby is 11 months old. We were catching up on life as we’d not seen one another since being pregnant - as I’m sure we all know, going through the motions of pregnancy, childbirth and the recovery process afterwards means that sometimes other things take a back seat, and for me it was meeting up with and keeping in touch with friends.
She was telling me that her LO is currently going through another sleep regression and that she’s not had a single full nights sleep since baby was born. He’s also struggling with weaning onto solid foods and will only eat the same 3 things - she’s exhausted trying to come up with new meal ideas, money is kinda tight and she feels defeated because she’s trying to cook and make all these meals for him, for him to then just either not even try it or to throw it everywhere. All the while she was telling me about her issues with her LO, he was screaming bloody murder and hitting her to try and get her attention. She added that it’s a regular occurrence, and that if all eyes and words aren’t directed at baby, he will kick off so badly up to the point where she has to just get up and leave wherevewhatever she was doing.
She’s tired, frustrated and just plain burnt out at this point and I don’t envy her at all. I’ve been there and it’s not pleasant, when LO was a newborn I hardly slept and was just going through the motions, basically was a walking zombie for the first 6 months. Things started to properly settle down for us when baby turned 9 months old, and it’s been a breeze since. The trouble is, I felt so bad and almost guilty in a sense, because compared to hers, LO is an absolute dream. - He’s a fantastic sleeper, always has been really. Started to get solid nights of sleep around 6 months when he moved into his own room and he sleeps right through from 7pm until anywhere between 7-8am the next morning with no interruption (only exception being when he’s teething). - He’s always been a good eater and the health visitor would comment how much of a good appetite he had as a newborn with his formula, and the same is said now that he’s on solids. He never fails to try whatever you put in front of him and enjoys most things he’s given (the only thing he point blank refuses to eat is rice, but I think that may just be the texture?). - I can take him out anywhere and he’s so so chilled. I’ve been to restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, animal attractions, arcades, the library and to the park with LO and he’s so so interested in everything and everyone he sees. He never screams, never cries, never makes a fuss. And if we are somewhere where there’s another child (being a child) and having a bit of a wobble, he just looks confused as heck.
I didn’t feel like I could tell my friend any of this whilst we were catching up, all because I felt guilty and that I was somehow trying to rub her face in it and boast about how much ‘better’ my baby is than hers. Which is absolutely not the case at all, and I wish that I could feel like I’m able to talk about my baby too without feeling like a complete AH. I just don’t want to upset her either or make her feel like she’s doing something wrong when she’s really doing amazingly, she’s just got it rougher than I have right now, and I have to remind her that it will pass eventually.
I guess I just wanted to ask if anyone else has felt a similar sort of way in this situation? Sometimes I’ll see posts on Reddit too and the same again, I feel I can’t participate in conversation without hurting someone’s feelings. 🙃

I have just finished reading this chapter and, as a 'noob' in philosophy(this is the first philosophy book I ever read haha) I have some difficulty understanding what Nietzsche is trying to say particularly when he talks about 'tyranny'. Basically I have two questions I am trying to understand what he means by tyranny and I am trying to understand his arguments for it and against democracy. I apologize to the more seasoned readers of philosophical works to which my questions may seem too obvious.
As I understood the chapter he advocates the idea of a 'united Europe' and then continues to claim that an individual would have better chances of becoming great in a 'tyranny' rather than in a democratic regime. His arguments seem to be that because a 'tyranny' is defined by discipline and constraints one would 'suffer' under such regime and through this 'suffering' he/she would have better chances to become great rather than in a democracy where:
" In a democracy there is a large variety of tastes(due to the supposed freedom, the lack of any real rule), but this democratic taste prevents true freedom and commitment as they can't love anything in particular and have a weak will in that they don't even have the ability to pursue anything fully and passionately(as they are always distracted)."

First of all what do you think he meant by 'tyranny'? I assume he certainly did not mean some regime like in North Korea or ex communist Romania had because how can one become great if they have restricted access to information compared to other people from around the world? When he was talking about 'tyranny' was he referring to some hypothetical regime or some form of gouverment that ceased to exist before his time? To me this is counter intuitive because when I hear the word tyranny to describe politics I instantly think of some kind of regime whose goal is to keep people as less informed as possible and less elevated as possible(stupid for lack of a better word) so they are easier to control. Though I am no expert in politics either so I may be wrong when assuming this.
His arguments against the democracy and pro 'tyrany', if I understand him correctly are that there is too much liberty, too many tastes(opinions) which would somehow distract one individual from pursuing only one goal. So he would oscillate between goals and he may get good at lots of things but never great at anything. Am I understanding his argument right?

So I have two ideas for a common app essay. One of them is basic, me writing about how an anime (Gurren Lagann) changed me and inspired to work harder etc. However, since I am also asian, this topic probably gets written about alot, so I would not prefer this idea. The other topic is me writing about my favorite numbers (4,6,11). For each number, I plan to explain why it's my favorite and how it's showed up in my life. The problem with this though is I have trouble relating this to myself. Anyone have ideas on how I could connect my favorite numbers to my experiences?
