I'm a guy approaching 30 and I've worked minimum wage jobs all my life. I've been to college a couple of times and did relatively well; it wasn't a degree course but the course to gain entry to a degree. I left once because I didn't like the subject and just couldn't get interested in it whereas the 2nd time I left because I had to give presentations and I couldn't bring myself to do it. Public speaking is hard for me, I'm determined to improve but I'm quite introverted and shy so it's really difficult for me, which is embarassing.
I've dropped out of college twice and I think as a result of this my family and friends see me as stupid. My brother will make comments saying I'm dumb and seems to not respect my opinion on anything, my dad has never overtly called me stupid but it's just the impression I get from him when we talk about things. My friends from school who I hung out with until recently (I realized they are arseholes) constantly took the piss out of me for not having a degree and wouldn't respect anything i said and in their view I know nothing about anything. I found these people extremely arrogant and unkind so I disassociated with them.
I don't think I am the smartest person but I never tried in school or college when doing full time courses. I've done a couple of part time courses to gain some qualifications; English and Biology AS level. I managed to get an A in English but only received a C in biology. I was disappointed with my biology grade and the exam itself as it was 40% maths and I really suck at maths. I feel I knew the biology well but my maths let me down.
I've been looking in to courses for mature students and I'm considering doing a one year course focused on care/health professions, it gains me entry to a range of uni degrees such as physio, paramedic science, nursing, occupational therapy etc. The course involves biology, chemistry, immunology, care principles and many other topics to study. I'd like to gain entry to a physio degree next year.
However, the opinions of others has made me uncertain of my ability to achieve this and made me question whether to try at all. I think I could do it if I commit and put my mind to it, though it will be very challenging but rewarding at the same time. I wouldn't tell my family or friends about it. I want to help people and gain a good career but I also want to prove people who have always doubted me wrong. I want some respect from my family and friends.
All this has affected my self esteem massively; it's made me question myself and held me back as a person.
Do you have any experiences similar to this? Have you ever been motivated to do something educational or any difficult task for that matter simply to prove people wrong?

Currently in year 11 about to do English language tomorrow. I heard some unis prioritise people with high GCSEs results, especially English language if one doesn’t do it for A-levels. English isn’t my first language and never found it interesting, I’ll probably get a 5/6 in this summer. Is it worth it to retake it this November to get a higher grade?

I (21f) have always been a good student ever since i was a kid. I always got either the first or the second rank in the whole grade.i used to have lots of interests especially when it comes to learning about new things; i wouldn't really call them hobbies but i liked to read and be well informed about a different topic everyday. I thought this would continue in college, but omg i have not seen what's waiting for me . I'm currently studying Medicine in university ( we study 7 years and I'm now on my 4th) and i basically keep failing. My grades almost never are anything higher than the passing grade . I can't study for long or even feel like I'm studying smartly like before. Back then i can remember what i studied and can revise it without even needing a textbook in front of me. But now i don't even feel like i studied anything after I finished the lecture. I noticed my attention span has became much much shorter, for i cannot physically sit down and read a book or an article anymore. Furthermore, the worst part of it is THE ABSENCE OF ANY SENSE OF URGENCY. It's literally driving me insane because i be literally having an exam after a few days but i sometimes find myself scrolling or sleeping. This is not me and it's driving me nuts and really really took a huge toll on my mental health and self-esteem. I know i have a lot of potential because i have seen it before, so i want it back, i want to be a good student, to learn new things and have some diversity in whatever knowledge i acquire. Please anyone who's been here or know how i can get myself back together do not ignore. I'm in serious need of it. Thank you in advance. (+ English is not my first language so don't roast me too much plz XD)

Hey, for my Junior year in high school, I'm aiming to take the following ap/honors courses:
AP Physics 2
AP Environmental Science
Honors Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations
AP English Language and Composition
AP US History
Currently, I'm on the fence about switching AP Environmental Science for AP Chemistry, as APES is a very easy class with an easy exam that won't do anything for my college admissions rather than the gpa boost. I'm thinking to swap AP Chem because it's more rigorous and would relate more towards the field of major that I'm applying in(something to do with engineering/stem and a focus in business, not sure yet), and that could help me in my admissions since colleges want to see your transcript most closely mirror that of a college transcript, and APES is way too easy for that. But at the same time my schedule is already a lot, althrough I'm prepared to handle it, I just want to know if the hard work of taking AP Chem is worth it over it being easier with AP Environmental Science.

I'd say mostly that I'm probably ready for the rigor of AP chem it's just that I was interested in having some "free" buffer classes to chill in, and in AP chem I probably can't chill since the teacher is still kind of strict, whilst in APES I can because the teacher is really easy too.

I understand this is a good problem to have, but after getting non-renewed at my current school after 2 years, trying to choose the right offer is keeping me up at night. Please help me decide. These are all for high school ELA, and I have over a decade of experience in public and private schools. These job offers are all for public schools with unions.
JOB #1: 12th grade drama and 12th grade creative writing Title 1, urban, magnet school 80k salary 30-45 minute commute
JOB #2: High school English - classes not assigned yet Title 1, urban school of over 2000 students 78k salary 15 minute commute
JOB #3: High school English, including AP Language and Composition Title 1, suburbanish school 74k salary 20 minute commute
Job #3 sounds like the best in terms of what I'd actually be doing, but the salary is the lowest. Job #1 has the highest salary, but that commute seems so damn long. Job #2 has a decent salary and an awesome commute, but it's a much rougher school district. I need to make a decision pretty much now.

I personal am convinced that the Authorial intend and history does matter and i did have an hopefully interesting thought on it today.
Roland Barthes is a french man and and native speaker of french. His english is very good obviously and the first publication of this arcticl seemse to have been in english. Yet it has also been published in french. Considering my fair asumption that the man thinks in french i suspect that the french version of said article is closer to what was in Brathes head while writing the piece. Would you agree that thats a fair asumption?
