Ok, that's all I could think I've been writing for more that 2 hours bruh, btw if your phone is good unlike mine you might be able to connect to your pc and play with basically pc mouse controls thanks to tc games, it makes grinding way more bearable but I've gotten pretty decent with touch controls and I'm max level so I won't need it anymore: https://www.reddit.com/Warthundecomments/13u6cn8/8_kill_game_in_war_thunder_mobile_with_mouse_aim/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

2023.05.29 14:07 Foul-Ole_Ron War Thunder drama continues as players try to boycott the game and form a union, only for one organizer to be immediately spotted while playing, and others accusing developer Gajin of artificially inflaiting the player count

Context: War Thunder is a vehicle based combat-MMO from 2013. Vehicles in game are planes, tanks, and ships ranging from the early 1920s to the 1990s. The game is ostensibly free to play, but at higher tiers especially it becomes very difficult to play the game without a premium subscription (which earns you 50% more money per match) or a premium vehicle. Without premium, you're basically guaranteed to lose Silver Lions when you die at higher tiers.
Gajin, the developer, is notorious for implementing mechanics that increase the grind/are not player friendly (for example: when first playing a new tank, you have to research and buy a fire extinguisher. If your tank catches fire before this, you're shit out of luck, and you'll have to wait until your tank burns down and your crew dies).
Now the playerbase, and /WarThunder in particular, has a reputation for being fairly toxic and for hating the game while continuing to play. The reason given being that no other game hits that sweet spot of historical combined arms combat.
When Gajin announced the newest changes to the economy, a portion of the playerbase finally had enough and raised an outcry, as described in this SRD post.
After this the /warthunder sub was dominated for days by players review bombing the game on Steam and Google, changing the game's overall reception to 'mixed'.
Gajin eventually removed Steam from their listed platforms, but as far as I know the game is still playable through Steam.
Ten days ago, Gajin announced that they were reverting the latest economy change. They also invited players to take part in a survey about the in-game economy (with predictable results) Later they followed this up with a blog post, apologizing for the state of the economy, and promisied a road map with changes to be published next month (The aplogy blog post has since been deleted from the website). This was received with suspicion on /WarThunder: redditors either believed this was a move by Gajin to stop the review bombing, or were convinced this proved they were not aware of the state of their own game because they do not test it properly.
While all this was going on, some players formed the subreddit /WarThunderPlayerUnion. A sub dedicated to organizing a boycott of the game, starting on the 26th of may. Anticipation rose to a fever pitch, posts on both subs reminding people not to play (although there seemed to be some confusion about how long the boycott was suposed to last: a day, or several weeks).
The 26th rolled around and... nothing happened. The player count basically stayed just as high as usual.
Meanwhile union members (mostly centered on Discord) immediately spotted one of the organizers still playing the game.
The player count led to several conspiracy theories about Gajin artificially inflating the player numbers. Other posts on the player union sub even accused Gajin of remotely taking control of their PC, and logging into the game.
Union organizers started getting pretty slap-happy with the banhammers on people pointing out that they still logged into the game. Infighting between conspiracy theorists and moderates happened, and this all led to several dramatic 'I'm resigning as a union admin'-posts.
The /Warthunder sub seems to be mostly back to normal now. Normal of course being complaining about the state of game, posting about anime body pillows, with the occasional post exhorting players to not give Gajin money.
EDIT: added some missing links.

2023.05.29 03:04 Youngpeople_840 Is Gaijin botting playercount? I found something but don't know what to think of it

Is Gaijin botting playercount? I found something but don't know what to think of it
I have been researching two topics related to War Thunder, the spike in player count on May 26th and the increase in average players per battle since then. I suspect these two events are somehow connected, but I have not found any evidence so far.

TLDR: 1, The spike showed +13k player on SteamDB but ingame counter doesn't reflect that increase. 2, More player sitting in hangar than ever

First, let me explain the spike that occurred on May 26th at 20:00 UTC. According to SteamDB, the player count increased by 13k within 10 minutes.
This is data collected by Marlowe
This data does not include launcher and console players, so I wanted to compare it with the in-game player count. I found a streamer who was live during that time, but his stream made me even more confused. It seemed that the in-game player count did not increase at all. All those 13k steam players just disappeared into thin air.
In this VOD(please watch this video and jump to timestamps if you want some confirmation), at 03:55:28 the streamer entered a battle on Arctic. Polar base. You can find this battle's replay on official replay search website searching his username, this is the result

Key point is this battle starts at 19:59 UTC
On top left corner it states this battle started on 19:59 UTC(all time in this post is in UTC), which is 11 minutes before the spike. The ingame playercount right before he enters that battle is 138,624 and active battles is 3,128. Now we jump forward 13 minutes to 04:08:53, the top left player count shows 135,255 players and 3046 battles, in just a few seconds he will join his next battle in Ardennes (winter). Which you can also find on the official replay search website

Notice that battle starts on 20:12 UTC
Now if the SteamDB data is accurate, there should be at least 13k players joined the game during the streamer's Arctic. Polar base game but it actually lost 3,369 players during that 13 minutes.

Here's a diagram of timeline

What does this mean? I don't know, maybe there are 13k players unanimously decided to just log in for a short period of time just so steamdb can record their login and immediately log off afterwards.
The second thing is about average player per battle.
I did some research on past streams on Twitch and YouTube and found out that the average players per battle of War Thunder on weekdays is 37, on weekends or holidays it is around 39. However, recently that number has become 43.
Let me explain a bit about the number 37. This implies that for each battle there should be 32 players actively playing the game, because most game modes can hold up to 32 players per battle. Some modes/BR can hold less, for example at ARB 6.0 matches it is usually a 6v6 with 4 ju288s. So let’s assume that the actual number of players playing per battle drops to 28, leaving 9 players in hangaafk.
But with the current ratio of 43 players per battle, this means that for each active battle there are 4 extra players just sitting in hangar.
This goes beyond the effect of increased player numbers, because if it were, we should see an overall increase in both player count and active battles, which should keep the ratio between those two relatively stable. To show why those 4 players per battle matters, for weekends it should have around 39 players whereas now it actually has 43! It is about a 10% increase in overall playercount and a 36% increase in afk/hangar player.
I don't know what to make of it, maybe this shows Gaijin is botting, maybe this is just some bug but this is definitely something worth noting. For those who want some data, I'll post a list of youtubers/streamers I looked into. Please don’t delete my post, I have evidence.

Let me know if I'm not clear about anything, I'll try my best to clarify it

A Message from Your Adversaries:

Proposed Economic Revisions by Yours Official Opposition
We suggest modifying Research Point (RP) and Silver Lion (SL) acquisition to an adequate rate across ALL gameplay styles. The suggested changes include:
● Replacing all time-dependent rewards with higher action-oriented rewards. The community firmly believes this can be a vital restructuring of the game's economy.
● Eliminating all reward caps.
● Either extend the expiration duration of consumables and boosters or remove them entirely.
● Overhaul the Enduring Confrontation (EC) reward system. Extend the time for useful actions to either 30 minutes or one hour. With the required time to locate and engage adversaries, three hours of combat should not be segmented.
● Restore Simulator (SIM) battle rewards to their former value, in line with the required skill level and difficulty of this mode.
● Unify RP and SL multipliers at each Battle Rating (BR)/Rank. Minimize the discrepancy in earning between vehicles with comparable performance.
● Implement distinct repair costs (or even BR) for aircraft in Ground Realistic Battles (GRB) and Air Realistic Battles (ARB), as their significance differs greatly in each mode.
● Decrease repair costs for naval units, particularly at top tiers.
● Significantly amplify rewards for Helicopter Enduring Confrontation (Heli EC) modes.
● Reinstate 5x Win-Wager.
● Reduce repair costs and standardize them for vehicles within the same BR.
● Ensure that the net reward from each match remains positive (all players' aggregated rewards minus costs), with premium players earning more.
● Modernize and align the expert crew costs of older premium vehicles with newer ones.
● Economic attributes of premium vehicles should never be decreased. If players own a premium vehicle in a rank they have not yet unlocked, they should receive 2-3 spawns in that vehicle until they purchase a vehicle of that rank, preventing players from leaving after one death.
● The winning team's reward multiplier should revert to 1.4x and should also apply to the top three players of the losing team.
● Substantially increase rewards for Arcade mode. While these rewards should be less than those for Realistic mode, they should not be embarrassingly low.
● Overhaul kill assist rewards to either count as kills themselves, OR base assist rewards on a percentage of total damage inflicted on an opponent. Such reward systems, promoting teamwork, are present in numerous PvP games.
● Re-introduce the x2 RP conversion bonus during major sales, Christmas, and War Thunder Anniversary.
● Crew training costs serve no purpose. We want a one-time payment model.

Gaijin and its relationship with community feedback has always been subpar, and at times has bordered on mistreatment towards their fans. Whenever I read one of their PR responses, it reminds me of all the times the mask has slipped, With this one from about 5 years ago sticking quite firmly in my mind due to the meme that is the title it spawned. I have played this game longer than most (11,600 ish hours last I checked) and the cycle just seems to repeat itself, as there is a clear disconnect between the player base and the devs/management. If I were to guess it is partially due to the fact if they are playing the game they will be using a dev/press account with literally everything unlocked and unlimited resources, which is why they have to crutch on these unshared statistics, as they don't actually play the game is it is laid out for the average user. A good example of this is smaller nations' planes, like for example according to thunder skill me and a friend spaded the two Chinese mig 9's and made up about 70% of the games played according to the site, which then rocketed the two planes into the 20k sl repair cost as our kd was about 5 to one combined when they are functionally identical to the two in the Russian tech tree.

Regardless just my two cents, on the matter, so take of it what you will.

2023.05.28 14:27 Aggressive-Motor673 This subreddit is a prime example of an echo chamber (and why the boycott failed)

It's kinda sad and funny at the same time that the boycott completely failed. Did people seriously think that Warthunder community is so large? It has 370k members, out of those half probably don't even play the game anymore or don't use reddit anymore, so we are left with 180k people, and even if all 180k stopped playing (not gonna happen), that's still only 180k people, while war thunders playerbase is millions of people. People just forgot that reddit is pretty niche and 90% of active players don't go to the subreddit. And than because of the echo chamber that formed, people were expecting that the whole playerbase would stop playing. Like what?

Player Bot Boosting Theory (You need a Science Degree)(Repost from WTPU after the Great Witch Hunt) (Edited without Author's Approval)
This is a counter-meme, sorry I lurk.
This experiment is designed to expose the supposed use of bots in Gaijin's games. The hypothesis is that Gaijin is using bots disguised as real player accounts to populate server games during off-peak hours. The suspicion is that these bots are injected into already-started matches to avoid server overload.

https://preview.redd.it/p46vyepmif2b1.png?width=713&format=png&auto=webp&s=01eca722dbc357205f11f9a3feba183dfa67e700
To test this hypothesis, the following steps are carried out:
  1. Join a matchmaking game.
  2. Wait until the lobby reaches a player count of at least 10 versus 10.
  3. Record the names of the players in the lobby.
  4. Quit the lobby.
  5. Use the recorded names to search for match replays.
  6. Watch and record the replay, paying particular attention to bot-like behavior.
  7. Unveil the results of this experiment to the public, particularly showing evidence of bot behavior.
The goal is to either confirm or refute the hypothesis that Gaijin uses bots in their games, and to raise awareness about the issue.

Gaijin is injecting bots into already-formed matches. The number of online players changes rapidly, both increasing and decreasing, but the battles/matches remain unchanged. Based on observations from previous posts, these fluctuations suggest that 'sleeper cell' bots only contribute to server load after injection.
(You can find a video demonstrating player count fluctuations here: https://www.reddit.com/WarthunderPlayerUnion/comments/13sn125/player_number_generator_found/)
There are also images that show player accounts being hijacked: https://preview.redd.it/7qvqc8vuga2b1.png?width=1862&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=ac474076c8cf27d381eb26aabcb39f72913a2c42 https://www.reddit.com/WarthunderPlayerUnion/comments/13st3u7/wtf_is_this_bs_i_never_even_logged_in_how_is_my/
For most players, it is common to have 3v3 or 6v6 matches during non-peak hours. However, there are reports of unusual 16v16 or 12v12 and larger matches, which are not typical. In addition, there are accounts of lengthy matchmaking times.
The theory is that Gaijin is using real players' accounts as bots to populate the server. However, Gaijin cannot inject these "bots" directly into the matchmaker system because it could overload the server. Instead, they are inserted into already-started battles, similar to joining a game where everyone is already in position and you're just leaving the base.
This is a common strategy for games that use bots. They first fill the game with as many real players as possible, then inject the bots to prevent bot-versus-bot matches that could lead to server overload and undesirable gameplay scenarios. This is how games like Enlisted operated in 2013, when player counts were lower.

Here is the flow chart( Unfortunately, I can't physically draw a flowchart for you, but I can describe it in words. ) in the making:
  1. Start
  2. Gaijin makes matches: Player enters the lobby - This is the first step where players enter the lobby created by Gaijin for matchmaking.
  3. Gaijin awakes "bots" - At this stage, Gaijin activates the bot accounts that have owners.
  4. Gaijin Injects bots into the game - Here, the bots are introduced into the game, interacting with the players.
  5. Battle starts - This is the stage where actual gameplay happens. Loyal players get the chance to combat the bots, potentially believing that they are combating human players.
  6. Players receive silver lions - Players earn rewards based on their gameplay and the number of kills they have made during the battle.
  7. Gaijin disbands the lobby - Post the battle, Gaijin disbands the lobby.
  8. Bots log off (go to sleep) - Bots are then logged off or put to sleep post the gameplay.
  9. Server player count goes down - The server count decreases as both the bots and players log off after the game.
  10. End

There is a way to test this:
I would say people should quit before respawn and search that replay to extract a perfect unholy bot vs bot match to show the world what is wrong.
  1. Start
  2. Join Matchmaking - This is the first step, where you join the matchmaking queue in the game.
  3. Wait for the lobby to reach 10 vs 10 players - You need to wait until the lobby has enough real players, which in this case is a minimum of 10 players on each team.
  4. Record Player Names - Make note of the names of the players in the lobby.
  5. Quit the lobby - After recording player names, you leave the lobby.
  6. Search for Replays Using Recorded Names - You then search for replays of matches using the player names you recorded earlier.
  7. Watch and Record the Replay - When you find the right replay, you watch and record the gameplay. This step is about capturing evidence of bot behavior in the match.
  8. Unveil How Bots vs Bots Works to the Real World - Use your recorded replay to expose how bots interact with each other in a game to the gaming community.
  9. Profit! - This could be an end goal or result, perhaps generating interest, creating content for a gaming channel, raising awareness about the issue, etc.
  10. End
This process creates a systematic way to capture evidence of bot behavior in the game, and to share it with the broader community.
See the names, you can use them to search

The number of players will jump up and down like crazy if my theory is true.
The sleep to save server load and only inject to matches already formed.
If the author theory is correct, then the rapid fluctuation in the number of players is indeed indicative of bot activity. According to hypothesis, these 'sleeping' bots conserve server load and are only activated (or "injected") into already-formed matches. Therefore, the unusual increase and decrease in the player count could be a result of this activity. This kind of bot operation would allow for more efficient use of server resources while maintaining the appearance of an active player base.

If you guys want this movement to succeed, you first need to find a way to get in touch with that majority of the playerbase that is against you for any change and you need to improve your representation. Yes, I mean the discord server. That has officially ruined any chance of the movement being taken seriously. I still believe you guys can make a change, but you all need to live up to your word and dedication to the task at hand.

2023.05.27 09:43 Legatt Understanding paid trolls and sockpuppets (Strategy)

I've brought up sockpuppets several times and people act like it's tinfoil hat hocus pocus. It isn't conspiracy theory tier stuff: it's a modern marketing tactic, and hopefully by explaining how sockpuppets work, I can demystify them and you'll be on the lookout for these kinds of accounts in threads. This way if there's a wave of backlash and negativity over something totally reasonable, you won't mistake it for 100% genuine and fall into despair.

What is a sockpuppet?

A sockpuppet is an account that exists to be used in a social media PR campaign. Sometimes they're created on the spot and have no history. Other times they have a very scant history of thin but innocuous content unrelated to the topic at hand. Rarely, it is a carefully curated account meant to look real, and those are tough to distinguish from real users.
A large number of sockpuppets will be used by a small number of people posting from multiple accounts. Sometimes these people are in a "war room" setting, coordinating to identify multiple threads to operate in, while maintaining enough separation that no two sockpuppets appear in the same place, so that the overriding strategy proceeds undetected.
The key to identifying most sockpuppets is a lack of their own posts, a comparatively large number of comments vs posts, a very narrow set of topics of interest (2 comments on football, 30 comments on warthunder), or a recent account age.

Sockpuppet Thread Tactics

Sockpuppets are deployed to a thread to manufacture false "diversity" of opinions, and to shift the narrative forcibly towards what their employer wants.
They generate a starting statement, something that obliquely attacks people, in this case, for wanting a better economy, without proposing any ideas of their own or asking anything of Gaijin.
The sock puppet relies on bystanders, people who want to be seen as savvy, to hop on board so that the sockpuppet can reply and generate rapport, creating a feedback loop.

Example

We're in a thread. OP suggests that the boycott is justified because of historical pricing vs 2023 pricing. Maybe they include a screenshot of their earnings from a match in 2019. They encourage people to join the boycott.
Sockpuppet: "God you losers are so cringe, did you really think the boycott would work? Your discord is a mess it was doomed to fail."
Bystander who might agree that the economy is fucked but is on the fence about a boycott, or just wants to be a bully, or just wants clout replies: "Yeah all they do is post cringe communist memes. They don't understand the game lmao addicts."
Again, the goal is to redirect the narrative and change what is considered a "normal" opinion. So above, instead of "Gaijin releases one too many egregious pay to win economic nerfs and players upset and boycotting" it morphs into "players too stupid to successfully boycott, also they're cringe."
Blame is successfully shifted to the dissatisfied customer by making it seem like the other, uncomplaining players, better understand the game. Importantly, the conversation breaks down in such a way that evidence and principles take more energy to defend, while ridicule is very easy to sling around.

So what?

Sockpuppets are just one part of a very standard social media PR blitz kit in the year of 2023 and it's been the status quo for the last decade.
They exist to demoralize and shift the conversation away from their client's weaknesses. The danger to the sockpuppet is that once identified, you have a very clear picture of the topics your opponent doesn't want discussed, and their current level of desperation.
The difficulty is that when calling out a sockpuppet, you call out everyone who somewhat agrees with them, even tangentially. The sockpuppet will gaslight you and call you crazy or cringe, because you'll sound like a lunatic blaming social media spec ops for what appears to be the opinion of 3 normies, when it's really 1 sockpuppet riling up 2 useful idiots.
So don't necessarily engage. If you do, engage in a way which deprives them of oxygen and denies them the chance to bait you into discussion which they'll undermine. Simply downvote the sockpuppet, call them a shill, and don't reply further.
Or take note of the account and try to recognize the tactics beneath the comments. Analyze their post history. Why are they in this thread? What are they encouraging? What are they discouraging?
Happy hunting!
