I never noticed this before. Does it literally mean that that 3$ is where our base pay comes from?

2023.06.04 15:53 Environmental_Nose_7 If someone tells you not to get them a gift do you get them a gift anyway?

My best friend made a huge basket of gifts for pride month (not all pride related gifts). I said I was going to get her gifts but she kept insisting that I don’t then when I got home she messaged me saying “Pls don’t get me anything else I don’t want you to feel the need to do that just because I did”.

2023.06.04 07:04 BaconCat619 My (possible) AuDHD bff just bought a house. What does she need I can help with?

My best friend of more than 20+ years just bought her first house. I'm diagnosed and medicated ADHD and we've always suspected she might have ADHD or a touch of autism since we are so similar and get along so well. That being said, I want to get her a practical, useful, slightly splurgey housewarming gift and if it's an ADHD home hack, even better!!!.
Also, she's doing all the renovations, painting, cleanup, etc. herself to save for her wedding and honeymoon she's also planning during all this. (She's got every talent/interest/skill imaginable and always has a million projects, but she's still never sought a diagnosis)
All the lists online are like wine, fancy glassware, monogrammed bs, signs with her son to change last name on them. I don't want kitchy. I want significant, meaningful, and something she might not be able to splurge on for herself rn. For example, as a closing gift, I got her all new locks, a pretty secure smart lock that's compatible with her home assistant (but has several safety features I like) and I rekeyed them all to use the same key for her convenience. It's something she will use ALL the time and they all match her aesthetic and they are all high quality. She might have just gotten cheap ones and used different keys for each to save time/money because, while great, it wasn't a high priority for her at the time because she was focused on other things. And as a bonus, I know she's safe.
Suggestions I've gotten so far that I like as inspiration: - a shop vac (she's currently redoing her hardwood floors herself and the sawdust is already a problem - a Costco stepladder which apparently can last like 30 years - high quality tools/power tools (this is the right idea, but unfortunately something she has) - a high quality chefs knife (perfect idea, but I'm not sure I'm the right friend to offer anything for a kitchen because I'm obvious) - lawn care tools (because she will need them for the first time, but her fiance is actually in charge of acquiring these as he wants to maintain their yard and garden) - a fire pit for her back yard (but she actually specifically told her mom she needed other things first right in front of me so I don't dare)
Basically, what's something that's going to make owning her own place easiebetter that might be something she can't afford to splurge on, but definitely should splurged on. Preferably something she will keep/need forever or something that non-ADHDers may not realize the importance of!!
Thank you all in advance!
For some additional context on why this is so important to me. This girl loved me at my lowest right after my parents divorce when I was too young to understand and thought no one in the world loved me (I didn't even love me). I was in my third school in a year and was bullied relentlessly at the last one so I had just accepted I would never have a friend again. She helped me up the stairs at school every day for months when I broke my foot and was on crutches in the fourth grade. She loved me through every stupid boy I dated (even when I deserved many I told you so's). She loved me through every death in the family. She loved methrough every achievement and every failure. Even now, when I live 5 hours away, she loves me when I feel utterly alone in this world. She's my person. I'd do anything for her. I want to pick a gift that shows her how much she means.
Updated: Budget is up to maybe $200-$250, but still a little negotiable for the right idea. Ideally, I'd LIKE to spend a more practical amount, but this is the person I'd go all out for if I knew it'd help her in some way. Also, no gift cards or cash (even if it's for something specific she needs and has mentioned by name). Just not right for our relationship/financial statuses. It would upset her greatly. I'd just buy it outright for her even if it blew my budget.

2023.06.04 06:53 BaconCat619 Mom, I'm so proud of my best friend, how do I support her?

Idk how to share my post from FirstTimeHomeowner, but my bff just bought her first house! How can I help?
My best friend in the entire world of over 20+ years just bought her first home all by her dang self even though she's engaged and it's all in her name! 1. So unbelievably proud of her. 2. Her birthday is literally like a week away. 3. She's doing all the renovations, painting, cleanup, etc. herself to save for her wedding and honeymoon she's also planning during all this.
Advice needed: What's a housewarming gift that's actually useful and will improve her quality of life in her new home? All the lists online are like wine, fancy glassware, monogrammed bs, signs with her soon to change last name on them. Updated to answer a super important question:
Budget is up to maybe $200-250, but I would prefer to spend a more practical amount. That being said, cash or gift cards are NOT an option for our relationship and financial situations even if it's just vouchers towards something incredibly specific she needs. Id rather just buy it for her and blow my budget.
Climate: idk how to describe a climate because it always seems subjective to me, but she's in the eastern Carolinas. It's cold in the winter, hot in the summer, muggy and humid way too often, but also beautiful a lot. I know she's not fond of the humidity if that helps.

2023.06.04 05:44 Halpando Expired candy and why I have a problem with it.

So when i got to work today there was a basket of expired candy, some months old, some days.
Now im told it all goes in the trash bit i also grew up poor, and wasting good food is the biggest crime in my family. Can we not like, divy it up and make little gift bundles for the staff to take home or let a staff member who wants it buy it all at like, the same price as the grab bags wr make out of the old seasonal overstock? Cause honestly i would have bought all of it for dirt cheap just to have munchies in my kitchen since i have issues with eating normally anyway.
Or is there some stupid food law at play here because i sold one of those meltable things today for baking that "went off" in like, febuary, if we're taking the expired candy out, why not take those too?
Had i gotten there before the morning mod left i would have 100% been like "well why not?" Cause its chocolate, it doesnt go off for ages and best before dates are, in my opinion, a suggestion at best depending on the foodstuff.
I just dont think candy past its best before should be unceremoniously thrown out like that, let us take some home, or if you really wanna make a dollar, give it to staff for dirt cheap, especially if its been like, 2 days since.
Thank you for coming to me TEDtalk.

2023.06.04 04:34 JoshAsdvgi THE LOST BROTHER

THE LOST BROTHER

THE LOST BROTHER (ACHOMAWI).

Fisher and his brother Weasel were living together.
One day Lizard stole Weasel, and carried him off, and Fisher hunted in vain for him.
As he went about searching, he kicked up the earth, and so made the mountains.
One day some Mice came to Fisher's house as he lay asleep.
They came to get some meat from a deer he had killed.
They cried and talked at the same time, throwing dust in their eyes for grief.
Fisher gave the Mice some meat, and told them how his brother had been stolen by Lizard while gathering wood.
The Mice said that they thought he could find his brother again somehow.
Then Fisher asked them to help, to go and ask Sun where he was.
He promised to give them feathers and beads and paint to give Sun.
The Mice agreed to go, and, taking a long cord, tied it to an arrow and shot it up to the sky, where it stuck firmly.
Fisher then gave them the gifts he had promised, told them to ask Sun if he had seen where Weasel was, for he could see all over the world.
If Sun did not answer at first, they were not to be discouraged, but to go on ahead of him along the road he travelled in the sky, and ask him again.
The Mice started, and climbed up to the sky, to the road on which Sun travelled.
He came along, carrying his daughter on his back in a basket.
The Mice asked him to stop, said that they had come to see him, and had brought presents from Fisher, who wished to know where his brother had been taken to.
Sun did not answer, but walked steadily on.
So the Mice ran ahead and asked again, and then Sun stopped.
He said he could not see Weasel, but that a man lived far away at Baiwa, that he had no children, yet he could see him with a little white boy, which might be Weasel.
The Mice said that they were sure it was, and gave the gifts to Sun, after which they came back down the rope to Fisher's house.
The Mice told Fisher all that they had done, and said that Sun had said that Lizard had a small boy with him, who might be Weasel.
Fisher thanked them, and sent them away.
He felt happy, for he knew where his brother was.
He built a fire, took out his arrows and dried them, and in the morning started off to where Lizard lived.
Lizard went out to catch ducks; and when he left, he told Weasel to stay behind in the house and watch his bow and arrows.
As Fisher came near, he caused trees to grow in front of him to conceal his approach. Weasel had gone out to get some wood, and saw his brother.
He was glad to find him; and they talked together, and decided how to escape.
Weasel made a great fire in the house, and then took Lizard's bow and arrows and threw them in, then joined Fisher, and the two ran off.
Lizard was looking back, and saw the big fire in his house, and came back in a hurry to see what was the trouble.
He found his weapons burned, all but a few arrows.
These he took, and started after the two brothers.
They and Lizard travelled very fast, as they snapped themselves from one mountain-top to another by means of an arrow-flaker.
Fisher tried to escape, but Lizard always got in front of him.
So at last they fought.
Fisher put Weasel in his quiver and fought as hard as he could, but by and by got very tired.
Every now and then Weasel would pop his head out and say, "He nearly hit you then!
Be careful, brother!" Toward sundown Fisher was very tired, and looked to see where Bluejay was.
He was out stalking deer with a deer-head on as disguise, and, seeing deer, he was creeping up on them, and did not see the conflict.
The deer were startled by it, however, and ran; and Bluejay, looking up, saw Fisher retreating backwards toward him.
Bluejay was an older brother of Fisher's, and came to his aid, and succeeded in hitting Lizard in the belly, when he burst in two and was killed.
Then Fisher stood up, and wiped the sweat from him, and went home with Bluejay and Weasel.

My dad recently passed away and I got this giant house plant basket as a sympathy gift, my husband and I separated and repotted them today and we don’t know what some are and we want to care for them correctly. If this picture sucks, I can take better and repost tomorrow. I have a few more I’ll be posting, there were 10!!

2023.06.04 01:20 Expert_Role2779 I made a backstory for my Character for the first time.

And I am unreasonably proud of it so I am going to post it here:
I claw myself out of a shallow grave through half frozen mud in some clearing in an ancient forest. The moon is waning and half hidden behind clouds, and yet I can still see, the snow reflects what little light there is.
I'm shivering all over, every move is agony, my fingers are numb and yet I can't stop. I don't want to die here.
I didn't think a lot that night, all I heard in my head was his voice "I'm sorry kid, the game was rigged from the start… Don't take it personal." And then the memory ends in blinding pain, they speared me like a deer. Through the shoulder into the heart, I look down and I can see the bloody tip of the blade breaking through my chest… held down and speared like a fucking deer.
Then I wake up. It's been five years since that day, I really dug myself out of that shallow grave that one night and stumbled my way into a not far off village.
I must have been a sorry sight, pale bloodless skin, torn muddied and bloody clothes, stumbling along deliriously like it was the night of the living dead, a wooden coin clutched in my fist like it meant something and desperation in my eyes. Not that I would've been the first one looking like a corpse or the first walking corpse.
I crawled out of the woods in the dead of night close to what seemed like a small farm near the edge of the forest. Everything seemed fast asleep, not even the Geese made a sound. I stole what I dared, some eggs and clothes (gods bless the conveniently forgotten laundry basket) before being on my way again.
The wooden coin I left. It was the only thing I could pay with. Strangely, the cold didn't hurt as much as it used to just an hour earlier, I chalked it up to the fresh clothes and the eggs I ate raw - disgusting by the way but filling enough.
Five years on the bloody road, every night the same nightmare or maybe it's a memory. I can't remember much from before. Five years of telling stories in taverns and delivering little letters for midwives and reading banal gossip from the town over to illiterate villagers to earn a few coins. Five years of scrounging and living just from day to day.
I pieced a few things together during that time. Even before I've been little more than a courier, delivering messages for my employers, sometimes little trinkets… Wooden coins of all things. Who pays to have a wooden coin delivered anywhere?!
But when I try to push my memories more… Pain and the nightmare!
But it's not all bad news, I still got the scars and the look of a hardened traveler, one good story at the Inn and I hardly have to pay for my own drinks.
And just a few weeks ago I was in the woods again, near the village where I acquired my very first set of unbloodied clothes (It'll always hold a special place in my heart), and this time when the nightmares came, I pushed further than ever before! I even managed to eke out the glimmer of a face.
And it gets better, I received a gift. In the clearing where I made my camp, after I woke up from the nightmare again, a beautiful blackened blade lay beside me.
I knew it for what it was as soon as I saw it. Someone or something was offering me a pact. Needless to say I accepted it immediately!
Maybe it should disturb me that it looks like the one that speared me through the chest, but it doesn't because now I know what I'm going to do when I find those bastards again and I can't help but smile when I imagine their faces once they look me in the eyes and recognize me.
I took it personal. I took it oh so very personal.

2023.06.04 01:09 Rockhopper007 I'm looking for inspiration

I took up crocheting in Jan, 2022 and I spent most of last year making hats and other items for myself, as well as gifts for family and friends. At the start of this year I took a break, but I bought t-shirt yarn to make a big basket (for blankets or toys, etc) for my niece's new baby. I have yet to start it and the baby is due this month. 😬 I got exhausted a while back trying to find easy patterns. I welcome suggestions and a push! 🥱 TYIA

2023.06.03 23:52 Ok-Variation1215 Thank You Gift to Apartment Owner?

I’ll be renting an apartment for 3 weeks next summer, and I’d like to know if it’s appropriate to leave a Thank You gift for the owner when I leave. I’m from the US; we like giving gift baskets which can include anything from fruit, wine, flowers, candy etc., to more practical gifts such as household items, groceries, and gift cards. Would it be acceptable to leave something like this, or would it seem offensive or disrespectful to the owner?
