Since it is Pride Month and there has been a lot more controversy surrounding the topic this year, particularly in schools, I thought it was good to debunk some myths. If you have any specific questions about Pride and what happens in schools, I can also answer that as I am a teacher in Ontario. Hi everyone, I'm a 20 year old man. For my whole life I have always liked girls, fantasized about them a lot (both romantically and sexually), only have masturbated to girls my whole life, had some relationships (longest one lasted almost one year), everything always felt satisfying, and I was 100% sure I was straight (I never felt forced to find a girlfriend or to desire women, everything was natural and istinctive and thinking about men in that way was a turn off). Briefly looking up the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it does not mention sexual orientation. Still, I wonder how it is permissible to refuse service to someone based on their sexual orientation? Do we not have laws prohibiting this? If we do, why does someone’s religious freedom overtake someone’s right to not be discriminated against?

Hi, all! For context I am a cis /het male, but highly suportive of the cause, and always learning. In a recent communication in the work slack, we were discussing where to go for a happy hour. A coworker mentioned a particular bar, but I had heard from a gay friend that that particular bar had a recent incident with a couple of lesbians who were demonstrating affection. So I said in the chat "maybe let's choose another bar, that one may not be LGBTQ+ friendly and some people might feel unconfortable there". Instantaneously I get messaged by one coworker . I am not positive of their gender or sexual orientation, but they go by They/them pronouns and are current head of the department diversity committee. They say "thanks for your concern but if "some people" needed to say they were unconfortable, they would voice it themselves. Also, use LGBTQIAP+ instead, some people feel excluded by the term you used" I just replied with "sorry about that" because I generally avoid conflict, but in the inside I am legit confused. I genuinely though that both Q and + within LGBTQ+ meant "and others" and is therefore inclusive already? Also, was I wrong in voicing that concern if I am not part of the community, or is this particular person just beeing annoying? I did bring it up to my irl friends, but just trying to get a broader view.
