I can't believe I just discovered this subreddit! There are so many things i want to post here lol. I will post one though.
I have an idea I've been toying with in my head for years. It seems apparent to me that one of the biggest impediments towards human development that lead to misunderstanding, conflict, poverty, etc. is difference of opinion on geopolitical issues. There is typically a right and wrong and a rational way to look at things but we need to agree upon the basis. (this is a question about philosophy I promise)
Americans think Russia is evil because Ukraine; Russians think American are evil because of Nato; and we watch - not really news but more opinion pieces that reinforce our side.
Is there a way to distill a subjective argument like, "Who is right or wrong in Ukraine" to objective truths. Because if there was a way; I could totally make a wikipedia article esque way to view news stories in context; it seems like the important thing would be what questions are the right way to look at this issue.

Like example; I'll use Ukraine as the example since most people are the most well versed in this.
Maybe people put their points as "what I believe" and you check mark box the following (this is a wiki thing so people can add):
- War is wrong - US wants to control the world through hegemony so it can stay on top - Ukraine is a soverign nation and all soverign nations deserve to exist - Ukraine has historically been part of Russia etc. etc. (btw this isn't about ukraine russia - I dont care which side you are on just trying to make a point)
Then each check mark box you list; has facts next to it. And so based on what is true and false and the suppositional evidence - you can, as a reader, objectively then look at an issue and come to an actual truth - and the benefit is that actual truth might be a different conclusion because its based on facts.

For those of you that follow me and/or have read my previous posts, you know that I sell evil boy stuff at flea markets. (CCG games I.E. Pokemon, Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh) I also sell comics and some action figures.
This incident happened about 2005 at Marshall's Creek flea market in Pennsylvania.
Mommy and son (about 10) were walking by my booth and the kid stopped. He saw a box of single cards and started to look.
Mommy told the kid to put that down because they didn't have time for him to look.
Obviously this kid had enough and he said to her, "We always seem to have time for you to look at everything, but when I want to look, it's we don't have time."
I liked this kid instantly, but she gave him the "you'll pay for that glare."
He asked how much the cards were and I told him that they were $.25 each.
He's going thru them and stops and asks me if a certain card was a quarter.
I looked at it and went "Sh*t" It was a rookie A-Rod card and this was before it was known about the steroids.
She looked at it and said, I wouldn't sell that for that price.
What had happened was that when I left my house to do the market that weekend, I grabbed it and put it in my singles tray. I meant to take it out and put it in my showcase.
Now I know that there are people reading this that won't believe that I sold it but I did.
I told her, that it was my mistake and I always try to honor my word to kids. Adults usually understand that it was a mistake.
She then told the boy to put it back, they'll walk around and think about it and come back later.
Remember, we are talking about a quarter.
I said to her. "Ma-am, I am doing this to honor my word to your son. This is a one time offer. If you walk away or say no this card is being put in a snap-tight card holder, I am putting a $50.00 price tag on it and it's going into this showcase."
She tells the kid to put it back as she's not going to be pressured.
Remember it's a frigging quarter.
The kid gets upset and starts to argue.
The hell spawn then states "Talking back?? Now you aren't getting anything."
Well now the kid loses it. And mommy is standing there with her arms folded and is smiling like she won the seventh game of the world series.
Well what she (and I) didn't know was that the father was approaching and was seeing the results of her actions.
He asked what was going on and she told him that she was punishing the kid for mouthing off. He then starts lecturing the boy that he shouldn't do that blah...blah...blah.
I couldn't allow this poor kid to be punished for her actions so I spoke up. I said, "Sir, you really should know what happened. "
Mommy yells at me to "Mind my god damn business."
Me:"It is my god damn business. You caused this scene at my standand drove away customers. (a bit of a white lie but wtf.)
And then she screws up and states that he didn't need to know what happened.
Father says that maybe he does.
The father takes the kid out the door to the parking lot and I could see him crouch down and put his hand on the boy's shoulder. Meanwhile mommy is screaming at me. I removed the card box from the table and put it by me because I was afraid she would rip it up. (yes this type of stuff has happened)
A few minutes later they both come back and the father asks me what happened. I told him.
He looks at her and tells her that both of our stories match. So unless the kid snuck away and we planned this, she caused it. He then asked her why.
Her answer?? She didn't want him to have it. He asked why not. Her response?? She didn't need a reason.
The father reached into his pocket for change and I told him that I wasn't going to sell it for that price now. But I would if Mommy Dearest paid. (yes I was twisting the knife in) She yelled that there was no f*cking way she was giving me anything.
Father asked me "How much?" I guess he was expecting the book price. I said $.26 cents, but if you don't have a penny you can owe it to me.
I start to put the card in a top-loader card holder and this insane creature actually tried to jump over my table to get the card. She was screaming that she said no and how dare I sell it to him. A crowd is gathering and my neighbor told curious onlookers what happened. Most of them were laughing at her for being a moron.
So I handed it to the father and she's screaming that she's going to rip it up the first chance she gets. Father tells her that she won't because it's being put in the safe at his office.
I hope this woman got the therapy she needs. And I can only imagine what she would've done if it was 50 cents.

I don't understand investment at all but I do know it's wiser to give someone a gift that grows rather than giving them a $100 bill that they will spend immediately and it will be gone, you know what I mean? Because the last time I gave my son a $100 bill a few months ago he didn't even blink. Didn't appreciate it at all. But he's a really good kid, he was honor roll student every semester of high school and he's never been any trouble, always a good kid. He has a job and hobbies and he's a really good kid.

I remember when I was that age, I didn't understand investment at all, I still don't, but if someone had given me a savings bond I would be like "thanks for nothing," because it's something you can't spend right away.

As some of you may already know, in its lead up to an IPO in the second half of this year, reddit is making some significant changes to its website.
One of these changes, among many, is the monetisation of reddit's third party API. The monetisation of this API is expected to cost approximately £12,000 per 50 million requests, which is astoundingly high. The creator of the third party reddit app Apollo expects this to cost $1.7mil a month for their app, a figure which has been corroborated in scale by the developers of Reddit Is Fun, and Narwhal.
Apollo's developer compares this to $166 for the same number of calls to Imgur, which is lower by two orders of magnitude.
Apollo's creator's post goes into the most granular detail on this, but the general consensus is that this is a ridiculous price that acts not to cover the cost of the API, its requests, and its ongoing development, but rather to tacitly shut down third party apps so that reddit's first party app (which is generally considered to be of significantly lower quality than all significant third party apps) is the only one that can afford to supply the platform.
In addition to this, the API will also only be able to provide an inferior service compared to third party apps, by restricting what kind of content is available via the API (and thus via those third party apps).
This is a problem for a number of reasons.

1. Third party apps have much better moderation tools.
2. Third party apps have much better accessibility tools, especially for the visually impaired.
3. Third party apps allow you to control, at least to a certain degree, the adverts you a served and how and where they are served.
4. Third party apps have almost universally better UX/UI than reddit's app.
5. Third party apps tend to be lightemore efficient than reddit's app.

The long and the short of the problem is that reddit is muscling out superior products by leveraging their market dominance in the pseudononymous persistent social media space, to the detriment of the people who actually use reddit.
To protest this, there is a coordinated effort from subreddit moderators. Many moderators rely on third party API-driven tools to do their moderation appropriately, and almost every single one of these tools will be forced into retirement, and can only reduce the quality of moderation on the website.
I should be clear that I do not do any moderation via mobile app, so this change is unlikely to directly affect this subreddit. That said, (and while I don't want to sincerely compare this to WW2), there is something to be said for collective action for allies' causes. Further, while I do not use third party apps for moderation, I do almost exclusively use old.reddit.com, which is looking at the API on the chopping block while sweating bullets.
Last time a coordinated moderator effort of this size was enacted, we did not go dark. While /3d6 has grown beyond what I could have hoped for when I started moderating this space, it has never been, and is not currently, a particularly public, /all -y subreddit, so the impact of our individual protest would have been minimal, and I considered /3d6's potential use as escapism more valuable to those affected than said impact could have been.
That said, the way this is shaking out, this particular issue is more of an existential threat to the subreddit. So this time, I want to open this to community consensus. So, I have two questions, and one request.

1. Is it appropriate for us to go dark in protest of this change to reddit's functionality?

2. Is there another appropriate method for this subreddit to protest this change?

And my request; please don't use reddit for the 48 hours of June 12th and June 13th. If we don't go dark, I will be here for moderation purposes, but if we do, I will be taking a break for the period.

I saw this guitar at an antique store, and it called out to me so much I couldn't leave without it. Got it for $350, it also came with a few hex keys and three things that screw into the nut. I've never heard of Samick before, but it was so gorgeous plus that Floyd Rose tremolo - and that it was from the early 90s sold me. I looked into it, and it looks to have been from 1990 or 1991. The headstock doesn't match any of the Samick ones on the wiki, it looks like an in-between of their pointed style and the rounded style. It also has no dings, no scratches, no signs of play that my novice eyes can find. Even has the plastic on the back electronics cover. Can't help but wonder if this guitar was just a wall hanger. There is no serial number or anything, I've not looked inside the guitars internals either.
