2023.06.04 18:21 Bbanana5 Mother in law insists i don’t attend my brother in laws wedding

I made a previous post on her about my mother in law, but ive ran into a new situation. My mother in law and i are no contact due to her verbal abuse and behavior toward my children and i, she recently cut me off because i asked to go to her home with my babies to visit and said no to her picking them up. My brother in law and future sister in law are getting married in less than a week and for the past few weeks she has come to my sil and attacked her for befriending me, told her i was not welcome in her home, that she could not speak to me and we could not be friends because ill put shit in her head and yesterday sent her a lengthy message while she was at work to tell her that she doesn’t want me and my children to be invited to the wedding because i ruined her first sons wedding day for her (because she was not invited to our wedding almost 4 years ago during the height of covid, also no one was) she said i will ruin the second sons wedding for her by my presence and me simply being apart of the wedding. My sil is really upset and wants my children and i to attend and feels that she will be unhappy on her wedding day because it will mean that she won’t be able to have the day she wanted which included me. My brother in law has been on the fence about me going because his mother said no and continuously brings up her hatred for me. I plan on not attending because i don’t want their day to be ruined and i don’t want them to look back and have any regrets. Any advice?

2023.06.04 18:04 Mortyga Ryam I - Family Business

Ryam loathed placing any sort of burden upon his sister, and that's exactly what he'd done, dragging her along for the King's grand feast, knowing how ill-suited she was in such bustling environments. What choice had he had, with all the realm in attendance? The Redwynes were nothing if not proper, and his twin's absence would surely been noticed.
He'd tried to cheer her up with the promise of seashells by the sea, making a jape that perchance there'd be shells from as far away as the Jade Sea or Leng. She'd attached to that idea immediately, and Ryam was honourbound to fulfill his promise, to see his sister happy.
But where in seven hells was he supposed to find such an obscure item?
To be certain, he could send half a dozen ships east, to return two years later with their holds bursting with every manner of seashell. Far too long, and a perilous journey for some shells.
No, he would have to try his luck here in the city, and pray that the Merling King was looking favourably upon him.
He'd considered sending out his servants to comb the city for any such artifacts, but merchants had a habit of talking, and Ryam was in no mood of adding to the eccentric reputation cultivated by his siblings or uncle.
Worse, it might cause those very lechers to hound his delicate sister, and that he could not abide by.
No, discretion was paramount, and ever restless, Ryam volunteered himself for his quest. Donning simpler garbs of brown-and-green linen and a spiffing grey hat, the Lord of the Arbor ventured out into the streets of King's Landing by his lonesome in search of his sister's happiness.
He hadn't the faintest where to begin looking, but look he would, searching high and low for the treasures of the sea, and perhaps something else, to mask his true intentions.

2023.06.04 17:58 steffie-punk Am I not upset enough?

I asked this on a different subreddit but thought maybe I should ask here too. This is a bit of a rant and a bit of a question to those who might be wiser than I. I came out to my family as a trans woman a year ago. My parents have been somewhat supportive, and a couple of my six siblings have shown support but one of my brothers has been has made it clear that he doesn’t agree with me transitioning and that I will be condemned to hell for defying God. Because of the reaction of my brother I took longer than I learned to talk about name and pronouns with my family. A few months ago I asked to be called Stephanie and be referred to with she/her pronouns and it set my brother off because apparently his sister in-law is named Stephanie. I didn’t know this and after an argument with him and then my parents it was suggested that I choose a different name to keep the peace. I had reached a point of exhaustion with my family however I’m not in a position to cut them out of my life. So with reluctance I switched to a name that my parents suggested, Jessica.
Well my grandfather and a couple of my cousins found out I was no longer going by Stephanie and they are saying I shouldn’t have compromised my name. They also have stated that I should be mad that it was even suggested that I go by a different name. It’s forced me to consider that maybe they’re right that I shouldn’t have let my family dictate something personal like a name. I really don’t like going by Jessica but I feel like it’s my job as the oldest child to keep the peace with everyone else. Anyway if there’s any advice someone could give I would welcome it.

2023.06.04 17:57 ChickenDoodlemop Told I’m probably experiencing an ectopic and I’m so scared

Hello everyone. I’m in the UK.
3 weeks ago I got a positive pregnancy test. We had been trying for a third baby since late 2022. It was a nice surprise as our two older boys are IVF babies.
Something about this pregnancy just felt really off. I noticed my pregnancy tests were not progressing at all.
I called my local early pregnancy unit and was assessed there. At the time I should’ve been around 5.5 weeks pregnant.
I knew from IVF that by then they should be able to see a sac but little else. I just wanted to confirm the pregnancy was in the right place.
The sonographer did a vaginal ultrasound and dug around for what seemed like forever. She eventually said she ‘thought’ she could see the start of a gestational sac in my womb but it would be less than 5 weeks so they wanted to do bloods.
My first HCG came back as 326.
My second one 48 hours later came back as 330. A very poor rise.
They told me they needed to draw more bloods to do another HCG 48 hours later. I have just had these bloods taken in the past hour and have returned home. They said I’d get a call with the results and next plan in the next 24 hours.
Only the issue is - my sister in law had an ectopic that randomly burst and nearly killed her. I’m absolutely terrified of this happening to me on account I’m alone tonight with my two toddler sons as my husband is working a night shift. I queried this in the EPU today whilst having the bloods drawn and they told me I’d definitely have symptoms before a rupture and I’d ‘know’ therefor could seek help via my husband and an emergency number. My husband fortunately works very nearby (only a 4-5 minute drive) but I’m worried if something ‘burst’ I wouldn’t even get chance to call him. My sons are my top priority here as they’re still so tiny, only babies really.
I keep getting on and off pain/twinges around my uterus and have done for a few days now. Nothing major but definitely there. We have no family nearby so it’s not an option for someone to just come and be with me tonight
Has anyone got any input? I’m so scared.
Thank you in advance.

2023.06.04 17:50 masdonap The anger my wife has toward her parents is just now coming up in tangible ways. She doesn't want to consider therapy.

I posted here before, but did not get much response. I'm hoping that this time will yield at least a different perspective.
My wife was born in the UK to a black, Nigerian father and a white, French mother. Her mother abandoned the family when she was 12 and her younger sisters were 9, 9 (passed in 2019) and 7. Family prejudices, they didn't want her with a black foreigner from a third country and wanted her to marry a more acceptable man. She returned to France and did just that. Remarried and had 4 more kids. My wife and her sisters tried to reach out to them last year but were met with an unfavorable response. But her father did an incredible job of raising them on his own. She came to the USA for college and that is where we met. She taught me French, I taught her Italian (I am Italian-American). We got married in September of our junior year of college (20 years this September). 20 years and 7 kids into this.
Our kids were all upstairs and myself, my wife, her father and her sisters were in the kitchen/living room area having a drink. Seemed that my father-in-law was having an epiphany over his glass of wine and apologized for all the grief that their mother caused when she left them. Wife responds in French, "That is what you get for sticking your dick in chaos." He looked like she had slapped him. In Italian, so no one else would understand, I told her to consider that this was a man who came to a strange country with nothing, managed to raise 4 incredible and accomplished women on his own after his wife left because of the hate and prejudice in her family's hearts, who would've tried to move heaven and earth if he thought it would give his children a good chance in life and who managed to go on after burying one of his daughters one week after her 33rd birthday. A lesser man would've crumbled a long time ago and I asked her to please hear him out. She responded in Italian and told me to stay out of it. Her sisters reminded us English or French please and the night went on normally.
I had a long talk with her father on our back porch about everything and told him what I said to her in Italian. Admittedly, I shouldn't have done that. When I went upstairs to our room, she asked me if me and her dad were best friends now or something. Accused me of taking his side when I told her that I did tell him what I said to her in Italian. She was fairly angry at me when she went to sleep. They all left this morning right after we went to church. When we got home, we sat on the porch and I apologized to her, told her I didn't realize how angry she was at her father and asked where did that remark about the dick and chaos come from. She then brought up our wedding in Sept 2003. Her father had every intention of being there but that same week, he had to fly to Nigeria to be with his ailing father and as the first born had to be there for certain burial customs and to sort out his affairs. He missed the wedding and reception. I know that she had been angry with him for quite some time about it but as the years passed, it seemed that she had become more understanding. At least from what I gathered whenever we spoke about our wedding.
She talked about how angry she was at her father for not doing his due diligence and marrying a woman whose family did not approve of who he fundamentally was in terms of race and ethnicity. How isolated she and her sisters had grown up from the entire maternal half of her family and even when she reached out to her adult half siblings, the response had been disinterest and more rejection. We've talked about that frequently, how she's felt rejected by her mother and her mother's family. She wrote letters and sent pictures as a kid with no response. Her mother came to our college graduation as well as her sisters', my wife's graduation from her PhD, our wedding and my wife's sister's funeral in the UK in 2019, the first time our children met her face to face. Those were all the handful of times my wife saw her since she disappeared on them in 1995. No one could blame her for being angry, no one could blame any of them for being angry. After about 2 hours of talking, I finally mentioned counseling to talk with a professional and she immediately closed up on me. Told me she's dealing with it how she deals and that she doesn't need therapy. She just walked off.
The day is going on normally, I suppose, but I can't help but feel like I took 10 steps back after making a little bit of progress with this situation. The kids have been asking all weekend if she's okay and I just don't want them worrying about it. Ultimately, I want her to go to therapy because I think it would be helpful for her to deal with that anger.

2023.06.04 17:47 calexil Head's up: June 12th protest of Reddit's API changes.

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do?

Thank you for your patience in the matter,

2023.06.04 17:43 Immediate_Salt_6248 AITA for reporting my SIL?

I (32F) occasionally ask my sister-in-law (30F), who runs a daycare, to take care of my 4-year-old son when I have to go into the office for work. Her daycare usually finishes at half past 5, but I end up picking my son up at 7 due to work commitments. Despite offering to pay her for her time, she insisted on doing it as a favor.
During my son's last visit to her daycare, he accidentally ate peanut butter and had an anaphylactic shock. My SIL did take him to get medical attention, but when she informed me about the incident, she downplayed it and said he had just felt itchy at the time and a small rash. She claimed that he hadn't had a severe reaction, and I only discovered the truth when I found only one, instead of the usual two epinephrine injectors I keep, in my son's bag later that week after thinking it felt lighter that usual.
I was extremely upset about this situation, I would have never found out if I hadn't checked as my son after his dad died, he only speaks selectively. I confronted my SIL, expressing my anger and frustration that she had downplayed the severity of the reaction.
In response to the incident and her downplaying, I made the decision to report her daycare to the local authority. I believe that it's important to hold her accountable, as my son had a severe reaction while under her care.
However, the family believes I am overreacting. They argue that since my SIL was doing me a favor, I should be more forgiving and understanding. They believe I should appreciate her help and not cause trouble for her and rescind my complaint as she is family. I am not sure I am overreacting or not, as my son is involved and I am quite overprotective of him.
eta- My SIL's daycare is advertised as a nut free environment.

2023.06.04 17:39 CumOnEileen69420 Hello trans child who attempted to go no contact with me.

I will open this phone call with your preferred name, which despite you telling me over 2 years ago I have never used once until now.
BUT you have to understand. I try my best to just not say anything [to you] when we talk. Yeah sure I refer to you as he and deadname to everyone else when we call like your dad and sister. I just don’t use your name and pronouns when talking to you, but I also don’t deadname and misgender you to your face [just behind your back].
Why don’t you just start talking to me again. I promise I’ll be more performative around you [but not when you aren’t around].
Oh what’s that, you can’t come back to your home state? Bathrooms bills? Just use the family restrooms when you come down. Huh you’re adult trans friend in the state can no longer access her care due to the laws? Oh well it’s a good thing she was gonna leave anyway. Maybe you just need to learn that everywhere you go people won’t like you or what you do.
Now you want to reconnect right? We can keep talking despite the fact that I’ll stomp all over your boundaries and just spend an hour making small talk because anything deeper then that would require me to empathize with my icky tranny son child.

2023.06.04 17:37 TitaniumBrain /r/MinecraftSuggestions will be shutting down from June 12 to 14 in protest against Reddit killing 3rd party apps!

For those of you that didn't know, on May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to costing an exorbitant amount, effectively killing 3rd party apps, as no developer could realistically cover such prices without an expensive subscription to their apps.
This would not only kill Reddit apps from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader, but also other 3rd party tools like Toolbox and the many helpful bots that help moderators do their job.
Due to this and the official app's terrible UI/UX, many communities will find themselves unmoderated, as mods won't have access to the tools that keep their subreddits in check.
In an effort to prevent this, many communities are joining in on a protest against this change.
From June 12th to June 14th (possibly longer if reddit does nothing), these communities, including us, will be going dark (locking down the subreddit).

What can we do to help?

  1. Complain. Message the mods of /reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /ModCoord.
  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible."
Just because the subreddit will be locked down for a couple days that doesn't mean you can't exercise your creativity: join us on our Discord, where you can share your ideas, brainstorm or just hang out.
