I'm a Special Education/History Teacher and I'm looking to become a programmedeveloper. I am currently teaching myself HTML/CSS and I was hoping to teach myself either JavaScript or Python after I have a better grasp of HTML/CSS. I don't have any CS education or training, and my knowledge of coding is limited to what I have learned from books and the internet.
My plan is to continue to learn these programming languages and build projects as I learn new things.
I'm not sure if l'll be able to turn it into a career by myself or if I'll need to go back to school (let's hope not) or if I'd need a bootcamp.
But in the meantime, my current teaching position takes so much of my time and energy that I have very little left to give to working towards my new career path. I am hoping to find a different job to help me pay my bills while I am upskilling. I need something with a better work/life balance, something that isn't so emotionally demanding. I'm hoping to find some kind of professional office work to help bridge this gap. I am a hard worker who likes to keep his head down and get the job done. I learn new programs and procedures quickly and I get along well with people.
Really, I just want to be able to make it home without feeling like crying at the end of the day so that I can focus on improving my skills.
Are there any fields/jobs/companies that seem like a good fit for somebody in my position? I live in Northern NJ for reference. I understand that I might need to take a slight pay cut, but l'm more than ok with that (or with working more hours) if it means having a less demanding job.
I would be grateful for any help or guidance anybody can provide.

I have been using calcium clay mixed with baking soda for my alkalinity buffer. Recently we have had strong winds and many bird visitors bringing floating algae regularly. My ph this way, usually sits at 8-8.2. The fast growth of floating algae is spiking my ph to 8.4-8.8. I would like to try to use a buffer agent designed not to have an effect on ph (obviously they would all bring up low phbut mine is 7.8-8 from the tap after off gassing.
I found Fritz pimd alkalinity booster and was wondering if anyone has heard of or used it?
Or what do you do to keep kh up? I am basically having to add baking soda every other day and clay 2 x a week to get it to stay stable. There has to be a longer lasting solution that doesn't leave my fish in water above 8.5! Plus, if I am late by even a few hours as ibusy in the am and doingit in the afternoon. , they can get a swing that is as much as .6 day to night! I have a UV clarifier that will clear it up and it got so bad from a 10 day immune booster treatment where it had to be off after having to treat the pond for flukes and fungus. That treatment nuked the little bit of algae in those 3 days, but the floating stuff grew with fury for the last 8 (13 days total with it off).
I'm at my wits end with daily this and that and just want to get back to weekly maintenance. I also think my kh strips went bad so I am waiting on liquid drops. It's saying my kh is 160/180 as color is near impossible to distinguish reliably, but that's impossible with the wide swings right? For 12 months, at that kh, my ph has been stable. I screwed up one major water change coming out of winter and had a .9/1.0 swing that caused the fish to get the parasites and fungus because they got weakened and we had a new migratory bird species visiting that I think brought the flukes.
Any advice from experience is appreciated!! So many conflicting statements. I am in the PNW and we have super clean water with low everything which is a blessing and a curse.
I usually do a 10% weekly change for 3000 gallons. Ammonia and nitrITE stay at 0. Nitrate is now varying between 5-10 ppm after removing a plant that was an issue.
Also have a bog filter in addition to standard skimmer + bottom drain to filtered weir with ribbon media for max surface area and a medium and fine pad to catch debris. I rinse the pads when I see debris in the water column starting. Which right now is every single day and they are full while the bottom of my pond is clean. It's the floating algae bits and probably string algae bits trying to find a place to land and grow. Those are the two we have constant battles with.
The pond fish have been completely normal until this morning. They didn't come to eat! Granted fish are spawning so they're eating fish eggs, but my instinct is too much ph swing and strain. I think for our water, baking soda is just not effective enough.
Fritz buffer states it uses more than sodium bicarbonate to create a better buffer, but I am leery of products no one I know has used.

I fcked up my maths paper. I want to do BA economics. I needed a good score in maths to get admission in DU. The other subjects did not really go THAT well either. I did well but def not enough to get into DU...
Basically no way am I getting into DU. If my GT was good and maybe with luck I might get into some of the other central unis and some of other other colleges I chose.
But in the absolute WORST case scenario, my option is to study at Manipal bangalore campus. It opened very recently. I already got selected there. But I have many worries about it as its a new campus. Anyone knows how the faculty is over there? And what about the students and the crowd? I want to spend the next 3 or 4 years focused on studies, making friends and pursuing plenty of side projects and maybe even internships. I dont really care that much about getting world class faculty who are nobel laureates but I am kinda scared if they are atleast half decent or not. Like will classes go take place regularly? Will the professors answer doubts if students have any?
I know that the fees is high but my mother told me to not worry and that money is there.

A little while ago, I went to a dermatologist to see about getting a scar removed. I picked the closest doctor to me since I don't have a car. She charged $190 for a consultation (out of pocket, not covered by insurance) but said that it would be applied to the cost of the actual procedure.
The language on her website is as follows:
"Dr.____ offers patients state-of-the-art procedures including general laser therapy for scars, tattoos, hair removal, stretch marks, acne, and many other problems ... Dr.____ is now seeing patients at [X location] for Medical and Cosmetic appointments.
To me, that means I can get a scar removed at X location, but AFTER the consultation, she said "by the way, since we don't have any lasers here, you have to go to our other office" which is an hour and forty minutes away from me and would require a day off of work due to their hours.
This feels like a total bait and switch. They advertised a service the office don't offer, and weren't honest about it until after I paid them.
Their website has a generic "no refunds for any reason" rule.
Is this normal? Is it reasonable to expect a refund? If they won't offer one, in your experience is this something I could dispute via the credit card company?

I have no one in my life. I cling to my ex because of that. I told him I think my cat is dying. She’s going to the vet soon. He told me I just want to be the center of attention and I’m self indulgent because he is also losing his cat and he walked away from me over it. I never did that to him when my dogs died. I told him goodbye today. He was so cruel to me but everyone is.

I do not have any background in psychology, neuroscience or any other field that would inform what follows. This is, as the name implies, a crack theory with no hard evidence to support it. It is based solely upon my experience and the experiences that others have shared on this site as, in person, and on other social media forums. I am recently diagnosed and this has helped me to make sense of my experience. My hope is that it can help someone else as well. If you find that there are any describable flaws or holes, that is valuable feedback and I invite you to bring them to light in the comments.
Many of the symptoms of autism can be attributed to a reduced ability to perceive and/or process intersubjectivity. What is intersubjectivity? All information in the universe can be categorized as either objective or subjective. When attempting to determine if a piece of information is objective or subjective, there are two questions that we can ask: “Would this still be true if no one was present to perceive it?” and “Are there potentially any consequences for acting on this information if it is in error?” For example, the statement “These clothes are attractive” would be subjective because it would cease to be true if it weren’t perceived (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) and there is no consequence for being “wrong”. It’s just a difference of opinion, so the answer to both questions is “no” and the statement is subjective. By contrast, the statement “this shirt is made of cotton” would be objective. The material does not change or cease to exist when no one is looking, and if the statement turns out to be wrong (and the material is not machine washable), you could end up ruining your clothes. The answer to both questions is “yes” therefore the statement is objective.
Intersubjectivity exists in this odd gray area, where the answers to those two questions might not match. For example, if I were to say “This shirt costs $5.00,” the answer to the first question would be “no” because monetary value is based upon perception, but the answer to the second question would be “yes” because I don’t get to decide the prices at a store where I’m shopping. If I were to take the shirt while rendering less than the amount demanded, that would be a crime, and there would be consequences.
That’s intersubjectivity. Technically, it’s subjective in that it’s based upon a man-made construct, but changing it is more complicated than simply changing your own opinion. You would have to change the minds of multiple people (sometimes a large group) in order to change an intersubjective fact.
Many intersubjectivities are social and cultural norms. Money is a pretty good example. Its value is entirely based upon perception, and yet there are very real consequences for not having enough of it. Another would be the law. When laws are passed they do not become objective. They are intangible human constructs, unlike the laws of physics or of nature. If tomorrow, we all woke up having forgotten that a particular legal law exists, and all records of it had disappeared, it would functionally cease to exist. The same cannot be said for the law of gravity or any other law of physics. Still another example would be cultural fashion sense. If I wear an outfit to a job interview that society would deem “unprofessional”, I will likely bear the consequence of not getting the job even if my subjective opinion is that the outfit is completely professional.
This isn’t to say that autistic folks are incapable of understanding these concepts, but rather that we process them very differently than neurotypicals. Where neurotypicals can naturally classify new information as objective, subjective or intersubjective, autistics are often made to choose between classifying as objective or subjective. When presented with information that is intersubjective, it’s like we’ve been asked to put a round peg in either the square or triangular hole.
This is why we are often known for being abnormally attached to certain intersubjectivities, like hard rules. We process them as objective. Meanwhile, we process other cultural norms as subjective and we’re baffled when neurotypicals criticize us for getting them “wrong”. Not every autistic person is going to misclassify the same intersubjectivity the same way. Some of us may interpret the law as subjective and become anarchists. Some of us may find fashion to be objective and join the fashion police (maybe it’s a special interest, idk).
The severity of one’s autism also affects this. There will be plenty of high-functioning folks who are perfectly capable of processing the vast majority of intersubjectivities as intersubjectivities and maybe will only have trouble with a few social norms. On the other end of the spectrum are the folks that are entirely non-verbal because language itself is an intersubjectivity. After all, words only mean what people agree that they mean.
Facial expressions are another example of intersubjectivity. Most folks probably wouldn’t think that this would be the case. Infants begin to use facial expression to convey their emotions long before they’ve said their first words, so we are left to assume that human beings are hard-coded with certain facial expressions meant to convey certain emotions, but as Malcolm Gladwell discusses in his book Talking with Strangers: What We Should Know About the People We Don’t Know, cultures that are entirely separate from one another can develop very different facial expressions to represent the same emotions. They can even develop different involuntary behaviors analogous to laughter. Turns out, these are all just unconscious social norms learned very early on in life. If you are among the many autistics who have difficulty reading facial expressions or expressing emotions via facial expressions, a diminished capacity for processing intersubjectivity could explain why. A facts about facial expressions, such as “A smile indicates happiness” are intersubjective.
This theory is far from explaining all of the symptoms of autism (sensory issues, for example, are something that cannot be explained), but hopefully this ramble of mine will help someone out there to contextualize their experience.

So I just called my parents with the intention of talking about the abuse my mom put me and my sibling through, and in the end cutting contact with her and trying to keep contact with my dad. I had absolutely expected what happened next but am still shocked people can be that short sighted.
I said I wanted to talk about everything now, and my mom replied with that she was eager to know why I had been so not nice to HER. And she was mad that I had told other family and my dad about what was bothering me, but not her. She was there! She did it all! She caused all of this! Plus, I was fucking scared of her. She then proceeded to say things like: I want to help you with YOUR problem. Putting it all as though it doesn't have anything to do with her.
They are now on their way here, 1,5 hour drive away. It does feel good that they finally are willing to actually do something for me, but only after this...
I don't think anything can come from this talk, I don't see a way forward, especially seeing as my mom said she doesn't want the talk to be about blaming someone and that person having to say sorry. As if she has ever said that word to me in her life before.. I didn't have a hope for that anymore either. I knew it would go this way, but still it baffles me.
Now the only thing I want is to say everything I want to say, cut ties with her but keep them with my dad. I just don't know if he'll be up for that (he has hinted in past conversations that he doesn't see, in a practical way, how that would work). I'm not sure he'd actually cut ties with me if it comes down to it. I just hope it all works out and I'm finally released of soms of the stress surrounding this all.

My baby is turning one soon and we are having her a birthday party but it is a few days after her actual birthday. The grandparents are driving in from out of state the week of her birthday and party. They said they were coming to town for her birthday so we assumed they would be available on her birthday to celebrate and not just for her birthday party. We just found out they are planning to go camping on her birthday and are not planning to come see her. Me and my partner were pretty upset by this as we thought that we would all be celebrating her birthday together and had planned to take her out that day for a birthday activity with them. Are we the asshole for assuming that they would be coming to see our daughter on her birthday and not just coming to her birthday party?

My intention was to move the downloads folder to another hard drive. I googled it and figured out how to select a specific hard drive for downloads but I can't figure out how to pick an exact folder for them to go into. Now the downloads go into the right hard drive but they are not in a folder. I just want them to be sent into a folder instead of being loose and getting lost in the mess. I'm using windows 10

As an Afro-Brazilian id been so happy back in 2022 when originally hearing about the West-African inspired influences in the regions soon to be. Problems began showing up though whenever I payed closer attention to the conversation of Natlan more. Because whenever Natlan is discussed theirs this clear anti-blackness narrative that, every time someone mentions, not even West African cultural dominance but simply mentions influences (which wouldn't even be inaccurate due to how heavily affected by African cultures South and even parts of meso-america are) theres this...aversion almost?
like even having meso/latino America tangentially related with African influences is somehow problematic or how people try to pass of responsibility and by proximity erase middle eastern representation by saying Sumeru had egypt so therefore that was THE afro representation. It just kind of comes across as a form of colorism. Where fine with "brown/tan cultures" but not "black" ones.
