A dreary day at the Lake. On mobile, excuse the formatting!
Got to the park a bit after opening. It's been a few years since my last visit, and figured I'd take a look. Crowds were very minimal for most of the day. Overcast weather, a bit cold and windy... but let's have at it!
Boulder Dash (15) - This ride is still a legend. I've been on every incarnation of this beast. Trick track, triple up, double up and now with the steel reinforcements on parts of the track. It's a classic CCI that everyone here should be very familiar with. Some crazy laterals wherever you are on the train, a few small pops of airtime in the back, and pure speed thrill of racing through the woods. It's definitely starting to show some age at this point though.
Zoomerang (1) - For lack of other options, I took a lap on easily my favorite boomerang. It's still amazing how smooth this is compared to others.
Phobia is currently down due to a sensor fault, and has been for a week or so according to some ride ops. Don't stick your feet outside of the trains.
Wildcat is closed for the season to continue refurbishment work.
So, with half the attractions closed... I opted to attend Lake Compounce's concert of the evening. Sugar Ray (Fly, Every Morning) was playing a set on the new floating stage. Surprisingly good sound quality for the set up! Got to meet Mr. Mark himself after the show, and he's a SUPER friendly guy. Was more than happy to take selfies, talk with the crowd and even gave me a big bear hug.
The Lake is a classic park that still has some super fun rides. With Haunted Graveyard being gone now, they do have some decent space for new attractions, if they ever shift focus away from the water park.

Bought a Glorious Mode 0 just last Feb 2023, and nagddouble click na siya agad. Hindi naman ako hardcore gamer and Valo lang nilalaro ko. Di din naman araw araw ginagamit yung mouse so yeah, money down the drain talaga haha,
Same issue with my G304 noon, within 1 year nag double click.
Any recommendations na solid gaming mouse na wala masyadong issues? Would appreciate recommendations so much!

For those who need an ELI5 on Orissa train accident
TL/DR at end of the post
So, since dust has settled post the Orissa train disaster, time to point out the reasons. I've handmade a schematic to illustrate the scenario.
Incident- 3 trains got into an accident at Bahanaga Bazaar in Orissa due to multiple factors at around 7 PM on June 2.
What actually happened?

We look at the above schematic to understand what happened. In normal train operations, slower trains (like Goods) make way for faster trains on the route (like SMVT Howrah and Coromandel in this case). Hence they are put on loop lines (also called sidings) marked as Loop1 and Loop 2 above.
In this case, goods 2 and goods1 occupied loop 2 and loop 1 respectively. This looping happens due to mechanism used to switch between tracks. These are called switches or points. The troublemaker in this case is Switch/Point no 17A, (labelled towards center right in diag).
Now Indian Railways uses something called Route Relay Interlocking/Electronic interlocking, to ensure that these web of switches are set such that 2 trains do not end up on same track. The same mechanism also controls the signal viz if there is train ahead, the signal will duly turn red.
Goods 2 was duly looped by setting switch 17A towards Loop 2. Later, to allow Coromandel Exp, switch 17A was aligned such that it would have allowed to Coromandel to pass through Main Down line (labelled at extreme center-left). Ideally, the train should have followed the black (C) marked path, meanwhile overtaking Goods 2. The signal S1 (at center right of diagram) should have displayed Green signal, meaning proceed at full speed (or permissible speed, which is 130 kph for this section). Similarly, the Bangalore SMVT Howrah train on Up Main would have crossed Coromandel, going towards opposite direction.
Hereafter, based on reports of Railways (link of which will be mentioned below) 3 scenarios emerged-
  1. Scenario 1- Most plausible- Someone in the control cabin of the particular station decided to flip switches at very last moment and thereby changing orientation of Switch 17A (directing coromandel to loop2, on which goods2 was standing), which was set for high speed passing of Coromandel through Mainline, overtaking goods 2. As a result, the signal S1 would have turned Red because of goods2 standing in path of coromandel. The driver couldnt brake and dashed into goods
  2. Scenario 2- The switch 17A never oriented towards mainline after looping of goods2. It was still oriented towards loop2, despite controller switching it towards mainline. This may have happened due to switch servo failure (the motor which controls the switch), while the computesystem thought the switch has been changed and thus signal S1 being green. In this particular case, possibility of sabotage cant be ruled out
  3. Scenario 3- Switch 17A would have been set towards loop2. In this case, the signal S1 should have duly displayed Red, but there is a possibility that Signal S1 did not show any aspect, thus pointing to a potential signal failure
Whatever scenario may have been true, the coromandel, instead of going through mainline, changed tracks and entered loop line 2 (marked by Red (E) arrows) at a speed of 128kph (the speed while entering loop should never exceed 30kph). This 128 kph entry into loopline first derailed the train and at the same time, locomotive of Coromandel dashed with rear of goods2 and landed on top of it. So it came across as a double whammy for the train- collision and derailment at same time.
Where does Bangalore SMVT Howrah Exp come into picture?
As the Coromandel derailed, its coaches went flying in all directions. Some coaches of Coromandel hit the rear 2-3 coaches of SMVT Howrah Express, which was crossing coromandel at the same time through Up Mainline.
Could Kavach have prevented the accident?
While KAVACH anti collision system is a good mechanism to prevent accident, it unfortunately couldnt have prevented the accident
Did coaches play an important role in reducing impact of accident?
At 128 kph, all coaches would have failed due to extreme stresses. However, the LHB coaches (the red and silver ones you see in max trains today) still prevented telescoping of coaches (meaning coaches dashing into each other), and rather allowed coaches to fall on its side.
Who do we blame?
  1. The maintenance team, who didnt expect the switches and signal beforehand (in case of scenario 2 and 3)
  2. The section controller, who changed switches at wrong time (in case of scenario 1)
  3. Ultimately railways, because of a. Heavy freight movement at cost of neglecting maintenance coz, well, freight operations bring in $$ b. Understaffing of railways, esp when 3 lakh posts are vacant
TL/DR- accident happened due to any of 3 causes- signal failure or controller failure, thus sending coromandel directly in line of freight train, derailing and colliding at same time. THe other train, Bangalore Howrah, was merely at wrong place at wrong time, and collided with coaches of derailed Coromandel Exp.

2023.06.04 12:25 Mundane-Tart-9538 Can’t stand my coworker anymore :(

I made my first major mistake sa job ko recently. I’m only in the company for a few months, basically I’m still in probation. We have this partner system wherein ka-partner / trainer ko si coworker.
For context: Close kami nung una kaso napansin kong naging hostile na sya sakin nung 2nd month ko. Nagpapatulong ako sa major task namin kasi may need akong attendan na sumabay sa deadline din namin. Even my manager told me na ask help sa partner ko to avoid delays, pero sya sobrang unwilling and feel ko na-off na sya sakin nun.
After that, di na kami bumalik sa normal trainings namin. Madalas hinahayaan nya na lang ako and yung mga major tasks, di nya ako iniinform. Parang dapat alam ko na. Eh yung mga kasabayan ko as in lahat lalo na major operations hands on pa din trainers nila kahit na ilang months na kami. Tapos nagtataka sila bat di na ako nagtatanong, e ramdam ko yung unwillingness nya to teach. Pabalang pa sumagot minsan. I am still learning and hindi madali ang work. Bat di sya understanding kahit aware sya na hapit nga kami since kulang din ng tao ang team namin and very limited din ang time? :( Feel ko sya yung tao na pag ayaw nya na, di na nya papakisamahan and ipapakita nya na ayaw nya sayo para umayaw ka. Kasi that’s how she’s treating one of the new employee din and kinekwento din naman nya kung gaano nya kaayaw yun sa circle namin. She’s probably talking sh*t behind me sa ibang kawork namin.
So going back, ayun nga nagkamali ako recently and nag cause ng rework. First time lang naman in the months I’m in and pati naman ako disappointed sa simple mistake na nag-cause ng major rework. Since partner ko sya and first time ko nagkaganitong situation, it’s her duty to teach me ano gagawin pag may ganitong scenario. Mga kasabay ko naman nagka rework na din before pero fully supported sila ng partner nila. Ako? Minock nya pa sa group call namin and sinabi sa kasabayan ko na nag-aask din ng help na parang “I-double check mo muna yung ganto ganyan before mo mag-submit. Sige ka mag ka rework ka.” With parang sarcasm or parinig sakin. Mas willing pa nga sya tumulong sa iba na may sariling partners naman kesa sakin. :( One time nag initiate ako mag call kasi may di ako magets, ayaw nya. Explain ko na lang daw sa chat. Pero yung coworker ko na may tanong and gusto sya tawagan, go lang daw.
She’s triggering my anxiety and depression. Besides the workload, sya ang main reason bat gusto ko na mag-resign. Kaso… I’m a breadwinner. Malaki ang sahod kaya major impact sa family if I quit. :( Sayang lang kasi I’m in a reputable company kaso sobrang malas ko sa position and sa taong naka-work ko. I know I’m not perfect, I do have a lot of questions… But I’m doing my best and very eager to learn. I don’t think I deserve this kind of treatment. What do I do? Tiisin ko na lang until I get the results of my employment? Should I look for a new job na ba? Need your advice. Huhu

Natapos ko na ang downpayment and ung current price is double na ng contract price. Pero mukhang ang hirap pa din ibenta mababa na asking ko. Di naman ako nagmamadali mag dispose, ayaw ko lang talaga sya imanage na. Also, which option is better:

I graduated from a "Big 3" school as well, with a double degree and on time. But damn, all of a sudden "mahina" ako when lil sis got into UP. Kinapos ako ng 0.03 noong nag-UPCAT ako so di ako nag-UP, di na rin ako nagapply for reconsideration kasi nursery pa lang ako, ang dream school ng parents ko para sakin ay yung naging college ko. Dream school din nila yun for me kasi mas mababantayan ko daw mga kapatid ko (panganay ako) dahil malapit lang samin.
Alam ko pabiro naman yung "mahina pala tong si Ate, si bunso nga UP eh." pero deep inside medyo nakakababa ng self-esteem lalo na't pinaghirapan ko naman yung double degree ko at maganda naman trabaho ko. Di rin naman galing sa kilalang universities mga magulang at kamag-anak ko. My little sister even defends me "Hoy wag nga kayong ganyan, di nga si Ate UP pero pang-nerd naman double degree niya. Work niya rin pang-matalino lang." Inamin niya sakin na nappressure din siya lalo na bino-broadcast ng pamilya ko sa buong angkan yung pagpasok niya sa UP eh di pa nga siya nagsisimula. I love my sister so much and I'm super proud of her.
Tinatawa ko na lang irl tong mga judgemental kong kamag-anak hehe kaya dito na lang ako vevent. Habang mabigat sa loob mga comments nila, nakakalambot naman ng puso yung pagsupport sakin ni bunso. Kaya ang hirap din hindi i-spoil eh hehe.

Yet another game that forces me to go online just to find out what the game's options even mean, I hate when games do this. I'm wondering about the options for the "vs item box" and "vs laps" and what they change for gameplay.

2023.06.04 05:04 Retr0K1d What's the meta for drive rush so far?

When I first saw it, I immediately thought of the FADC system in IV, but this time, it looks like you can only cancel out of normals. I also see folks like Daigo drive dashing right after a knockdown to cover ground and go for a meaty(?), or maybe just keep up the pressure.
Right now, my brain can only imagine it being used to extend combos, more specifically, get a few hits in with normals, then drive cancel and get more hits in. Is that it?
Also, the dashing by double-tapping a direction after crouching normal is easy to start, but I wish it was like how you FADC a move in IV. It's such an abrupt and twitchy motion.
